What is your (intended) major/career? My intended major at the moment is Law and Society. I was hoping to go to law school, but after looking into it and seeing how dreadfully unhappy most lawyers are with their careers, I've reconsidered. I am currently a respiratory therapist, and I am considering keeping that job and pursuing a degree in philosophy instead.
What issues are you most interested in (women's rights, education, racism, advancement of science, the environment, etc)? I'm most interested in the environment, political issues relevant to the US Constitution and the ways in which people twist it, and the kinds of issues that people get very angry about. I like the angry issues because people can be so irrational and so unwilling to admit it. It reveals something about human nature.
What advice do you have for other bloggers? Learn to spell. Learn to use grammar. TURN OFF CAPS LOCK. Take the time to think about an issue, and don't rely on discredited sources.
Are you in school, and if so, what year are you? I'm enrolled at Penn State through the "World Campus." I already have an associates degree, but only some of my credits transferred, so I guess I'm a sophomore.
If you had to describe yourself (or your blog) in one word what would it be? Verbose.
What's your favorite news source? I've been a growing fan of Reason Magazine, although that's more political. I'd go with the BBC. I like them because they tend to be more reasonable than most other sources. CNN is very "fluffy" and lacks context, and many other news sources--especially Fox News, which is laughably incredible--have an agenda.
If you could take a trip to anywhere in the world, free of charge, where would you go? I would go to Europe and see it by train, beginning in the southern parts closer to the Mediterranean and winding my way north into Scandinavia. Having lived in the Caribbean, I'd skip it, because that whole region of the world is way overrated. Trust me.
What book/movie has most influenced your thinking on an important issue? Believe it or not, I'd say that the Illuminatus! trilogy by Robert Anton Wilson has influenced my thinking more than anything else. In the Illuminatus! books, Wilson systematically endorses and then reveals the lethal flaws in almost every major system of belief. By the end of the book, you're left with the shocking and true realization that pretty much everything is absurd. And it is. And knowing that is a powerful thing.
Who has helped shape your opinion on politics/social justice issues? My friends and family. They're good people to bounce ideas off of because they're honest, and have widely varying differences of opinion. That way you can explore all the sides of an issue; after all, it is important to remember that no matter how thin you slice it there are always two sides.
What motivates you to keep blogging? A combination of a desire to express myself and boredom. Blog output for me drops dramatically when exciting things happen in my life, and increases dramatically when I am bored.
