Why always video games?

Sega, Nintendo, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, Xbox, Game Cube, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and I'm sure I'm missing more! Video games are a top form of entertainment for people of almost all age groups, but Are people taking them too seriously? With all the new consoles, its all people can talk about, Guitar Hero 2 and World of Warcraft being probably the worst of it. I dont really play video games ever so I guess I dont understand why theyre so entertaining that someone can sit for like 8 straight hours and play them... I can understand an hour or 2 but day-long marathons?? These people could be doing something at least partially worthwhile, instead theyre glued to their video games in their own little world with about a million other people. I can't explain to you how relieved I was when they came out with Wii, finally a video game that actually promotes being somewhat active. My friends who have it will come to school saying things like "wow my arm hurts from playing tennis yesterday" (and no they don't mean real tennis... i checked) and "wow i sweated so much yesterday just playing Wii." I laugh and think its hilarious, but Its definately a step up from DotA, which has to be the most annoying thing to listen about (and I have to listen about it for like an hour everyday).  Even my girlfriends are getting into Guitar Hero.. which i have to admit makes me curious and want to try it... but I'm old school I still have a Sega Genisis in my room. I don't think video games are horrible... i just think people obsess over them a little too much, and sometimes way too much.

although u have a slight point as to addiction... since many teenagers and adults alike are addicted to games (console or pc)... but I, myself, am sometimes addicted as well

i like the challenge and dare I say empowerment? To be able to control something without contest. Succeed or fail.

Games are competitive and can help people learn new things, but they also pose problems of addiction. This is same for computers and online. Many teens in particular are addicted to internet and would go insane if they couldn't go online for a week or month...

Games are cool, but only in moderation :)

I like playing video games... but in small doses. I think it's a complete waste of time to sit in front of the tv playing video games for hours, not to mention a great deal of strain on your eyes. I like playing video games on the weekends, when I actually have time. I think it's a good stress reliever and really fun too!

I have to admit, I'm guilty of being a guitar hero fan and have played countless hours of that... My boyfriend made a comment the other day that with all the time we've spent playing guitar hero, we probably could have attempted to play an actual guitar. That would be time better spent, I suppose.

Onto the Wii... I do love how interactive it is... I can't see myself building up a sweat because of it, but it is better than sitting on the couch pushing buttons. If you've ever played Dance Dance Revolution, that IS a good way to get a good work out! (Lots of fun too- I would reccomend it)

So... my point... I think that video games are a fun activity, but people who spend all day playing really need to find something better to do with their time...

As a Sims 2 player, I can't look down on people who play for hours as I'm guilty of ten-hour marathons.

But I do agree that sometimes people become severely focused on them, and most are extremely over-stimulating. The only game I play is the Sims, because it's one of the few that doesn't flash a million images per second into my psyche.

Yes i absoultley agree with you in your view of westing your time playing video games. I myself used to play video games every day and night, and i couldn't find any benefit from it so i stopped it. So playing video game is satisfactory for the time being but it never lasts and never gives you any knowledge that you can find by talking with people and searching books and megazines about the real life in the real world , we are not living in the dream world, men! this is reality of us and the environment that surround us , so my advice to the people who are addicted by this video games is that video game is a waste of time and kills your knowledge and i reckon that it is better if we go with this world and learn something from it.Thanks!
