Vagina Monologues

So recently at my school the gay-straight alliance sponsored the "Vagina Monologues." The "The Vagina Monologues" are monologues written by Eve Ensler to help stop the violence against women and children. The monologues are about women who have been interviewed. Some are stories, some are just statements, and some are stories from childhood, or youth. Two of the stories fell under the heading of stopping violence against women. Two of about 20. They were about rape, and the consequences. The rest of the monologues were about pleasure and lesbianism, which I don't really have a problem with, but that is not stopping violence against women. It seemed like the monologues were more about how to please oneself.
The reason Eve Ensler wrote the monologues was because she wanted to celebrate the vagina, and that is fine, but don't change your mind so that you can get more publicity. These monologues are not about stopping violence. They don't offer a solution, they don't really even focus on the problem. What they do focus on is the vagina.
I did enjoy the monologues. Most of them were funny, and they do make some valid, and interesting points, but sometimes they were too edgy for me. I don't think I would have gone if I had truly known what they were about.

Unfortunately I have yet to see them performed. Is there somewhere online where I can read them?

i agree, a little too edgy for me as well. I saw it last week, and was all excited to see something that would promote stopping violence against women. It didn't accomplish anythign in my opinion. The play was okay, sometimes funny, but most of the time I didn't want to hear these stories. I kinda felt bad for the actresses.

The monologues are being performed at my school next weekend. I read a blog yesterday that got me so hyped about seeing it, but your blog and Bridge's comments definitely curbed my enthusiasm and now I am not so sure...
