Al Gore once said, "During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet." Is this really the person we want telling us that our world is coming to an end? I'm not suggesting that he is totally off his rocker, but we have had an ice age before - this is not the first time. Although he has celebrities behind him, the man is not a genius. He continuously argues that the Arctic shelf is collapsing and that we will all soon be fish if we don't watch out. Many would argue that the collapse of the Arctic shelf is a good example of how global warming is happening now; however, the Arctic shelf is growing on the opposite side. There is no doubt that we are seeing some of the effects of global warming, and we should do more to prevent the greenhouse gas. For instance, the search for alternative fuel needs to be sponsored by our government in a much larger way. The people need to realize that driving your diesel around town just to show off probably isn't a great idea. On the other hand, building bomb shelters and buying food in bulk makes you look like a bigger fool than the guy who created the internet. But before you build an arc, you should realize that the world is changing and sometimes, it's not our fault.

But sometimes it is...
There is no doubt that humans have caused the hole in the ozone to get bigger. Absolutely no doubt. Global warming may be blown out of proportion right now, but wouldn't you rather try to fix things now, and find out later that it wasn't us than keep things the way they are and find out later that it was, without a doubt, our fault?

Is the ozone hole somehow linked to global warming? I had never heard that.
I thought it was a totally separate problem caused by CFGs and that it was on the mend.
I never said it was linked. I was pointing it out merely to suggest that humans DO have some massive impacts on the earth, and while global warming may or may not be one of them, it's not so wise to completely ignore our impact.

I agree with the previous comment.
Perhaps we cannot understand to what extent humans are negatively impacting our earth. However, there is absolutely no denying that we are causing damage. All you have to do is look around... see the trash along the roads. The garbage washed up on the beaches. Breathe in the exhaust as a big truck rattles past you *cough* *cough*.
This stuff is NOT natural, and would not be in existence without humans. Global warming is not a lie or a hoax. Earth IS getting warmer, and there ARE melting problems. Sure, there are global cycles regardless of humans contributing to the problem. However, let's play it safe and try our best to keep our global influences to a minimum. Better safe than sorry.
By the way~ yes, it's true we've lived through ice ages before, like you said. However, do we want to contribute to another one? I don't think so. There are cycles of nature. Temperature fluctuates naturally. However, we're (humans) aggravating the situation.
Have you seen his movie? It's not like he just preaches up there. He doesn't just say, "Welp, the earth is getting warmer!! Damn Global Warming. Stop driving those Hummers, you!" No. He has a great deal of research to back up his statements. Yeah, the fluctuation of temperature on the earth is natural. But what we are looking at now in terms of the earth warming as quickly as it is, is definitely not natural. It's happening much too quickly, and much too dramatically. Ice caps are melting. The Alaskan permafrost is melting, for which people are suffering because their houses are literally losing their foundation. The tundra never melts, right? I live on the coast of Alaska, and if the Greenland ice cap melts, my village will be under water. So you're telling me I shouldn't be concerned about this? That I shouldn't take him seriously? It's not even like it's just him. It's not just Al Gore telling us this. It's everything; it's science. Global Warming is no longer a debate; it just is. Whether or not humans are contributing to the crisis shouldn't even be in question. It is disgusting what we have done to this planet.

Global Warming is caused by the SUN
Their are other planets warming up too, not just the earth, when did my moms truck start effecting the polar caps on mars?

An increase in the earth's temperature is natural. A dramatic, frightening, earth shattering increase in temperature at the rate it is increasing is not natural. So what is the only unnatural thing about this planet? Look around you: the overuse of energy, the pollution, the smog, etc. It's too bad that you are so unconcerned with the amount of carbon dioxide you alone emit into the atmosphere. What one person does, actually does affect the rest of the planet. I'm just glad we don't all think like you do, because then my village might already be underwater. Forgive me for being concerned about my house's foundation melting underneath me??

If you read the other comments, it seems to be a consensus that yes, Earth is warming naturally, because there are natural fluctuations in temperature, such as those caused by the sun. Sure, perhaps the sun is indeed getting hotter.
However, that still doesn't mean that we're not contributing to the environmental problems on this planet. We are.
I just ran across this article. I guess it is never too late for somebody to actually study the facts and gather a clue.
The founder of GreenPeace is saying that there is no proof that global warming is human caused and is also telling us to build massive numbers of nukes! I love that!
