Separation of Church and State

Anyone else curious when we're going to get this one right?  Because if I hear one more person bring up the Bible in a political discussion, I'm going to scream.

I spent about three hours debating politics on a front porch the other night.  One of the girls there was a serious Christian, and the Bible was her reason for everything.

That frustrates me.  She's like, "Oh, we're going to far.  We need to follow what it says in the Bible.  The Bible isn't outdated."  And talking about how we're making too many changes to the "way of life this country was founded on".  First of all, let's imagine what this world would be like without change.  we'd have to wake up and try to figure out how to make fire everyday.

And as for the Bible not being outdated, well, I discuss this one a lot.  But when's the last time someone you know turned into a pillar of salt?

I understand people have their religions and believe they are right, etc, etc.  I'm not asking to take that away from you.  I'm asking you to stop trying to force it on a nation that doesn't all believe the same things as you.

That's why we founded this country.  Not to be a Christian land, but a land free of religious persecution.

A land where SECULAR and SACRED are kept SEPARATE.

I'll never understand why people try to use bible quotes to support their points against people who don't take the bible literally. I wouldn't say the bible is completly outdated though, there are still many lessons that can be aplied to modern day life as long as you don't take everything literally.

yea...I know how that feels..I debate with my pap alot..his whole thing to why he is against things is because "in the bible it is wrong"... <3 Lindsey

Not that I don't agree that the Bible shouldn't be a solid defense... cause now-a-days people like more scientific based answers with tangible evidence.

I, however, don't see how one can keep Secular and Sacred Separate. If you have beliefs, obviously you believe in what you do, that is sacred... you'll vote the way you think it should be. Secular, same thing...

In that way, you can't keep the two separate... but I see the line does need to be drawn so we don't impose others.

Yet, I do question the fact that we no longer have the freedom in public school systems to pray. I am not saying that I want everyone to pray in school... but I'm saying you shouldn't forbid someone from practicing their faith just as you can't force someone to practice a faith or belief they don't want too.

I personally feel that now adays more people are trying to convince me to quit believing.

God gave us free will, if you don't believe you don't have to, however I hope you atleast look at the Bible before you deny it.
I trust God to do his will, so if church and state does seperate I don't think that affects me going to heaven or hell.
But if it does happen I guess we'll see what happens to this country
