school system

All of our life people tell us that the reasons that we have to do things a certain way is because it will help us become a better person. Well please inform me why there are high school students that make all b's in their classes, but fail their graduation tests? What happened to all that great information when they needed it? There is something very wrong with our school system. Our school system does nothing for the children that it is created for. They have a motto that, "No child is left behind;" I guess they are not talking about the many kids that I know that are having a difficult time graduating because of two classes that will never be of any use to them in life. I believe that our system should be changed so that it helps students achieve the goals that they want in life. They should not require us to take classes in high school that have no value to us after we graduate. I feel that high school should really be a college prepartory class. We should have to search for help with college, when it should already presented to us. What are your views on this? What problems do you feel are present in your school and school system?

I agree that there are a lot of pointless classes in high school, but I think that they all play a purpose at some point. I always felt so bored in some of my classes, but when I got to college, I realized that I did pick up some skills from the classes that had nothing to do with my life and what I wanted to do with it. I think there is a lot that should be changed in education, but at the same time, I feel like we have to take the pointless classes sometimes to make other things make sense. It would be nice if there were more focused classes and students had more options when it comes to electives, but I understand that schools can only hire so many teachers.

final exams. How do they expect you to learn something, and then take a test over it five months later. I know they give you study guides and everything, but with everything else you've got going on, theres no way you can remember all of that.

Hollywood is a place where they'll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul.

There is this organization called SAT standing for Students Against Tests. SAT believes in taking urgent action using student body to counteract the boredom and petty competition that currently plagues the schools. They are against standardized testing and I don't blame them. It's so much stress on students!

I think you hit nail on head. Why not allow those who need help during the year get the help they usually do in state mandated testing instead of letting them be failed. We lack certain skills.

Yup. There are a lot of really stupid graduation requirements that are either hard to obtain (not individually but as a huge group) or that just aren't useful. Also, the standardization of everything is really difficult because the below average kids really have to work to keep up while the above average kids are forced to "dummy-down". It doesn't make any sense!
