So I'm extremely bored and went to the "topic of the week" section and decided this was a good one. Plus, in a previous blog I was called a slut and since so many people seemed concerned with it, here's some of my thoughts on the different areas that sex permeates.
Function:
Whether to procreate, enjoy yourself, for money, or love sex is something many people are going to wind up doing sooner or later. For "today's generation" it's obviously sooner than later. I know that many Christians have a view that sex needs to be saved for marriage. That doesn't necessarily mean it's for procreation. There are many Christian couples that do not wish to have children. As far as enjoying yourself, we've all heard of women faking it. If you're a woman you might have done it once or twice. I guess it's rather hard for guys to fake it. There's could probably be rated on effectiveness. Some people do have sex for money. While not ideal, people do it. It's a fact. Prostitutes and concubines have been mentioned throught history. They're in Gilgamesh! Point is people do it. Then there's love. While sweet, some people have a false sense of love and have no idea what they are really doing. Human emotions are oh so difficult. From this, I hope to portray that sex has many functions and while not all percieved as acceptable are still going to happen.
Age:
Yes of course there are laws on ages of people having sex. We all knew that one. Especially with this whole Jamie Spears thing. I don't think that it's a good idea for 8 year olds to be having sex, but they should be educated about it. For one, many children "explore" themselves and while at three years old, the timing for the "talk" is probably not ideal, it's not a good idea to wait until they're 17 either. I do in fact think that age differences are good for the younger people, some could compare that to older as well. Everyone thinks it's disgusting when an 80 year old man is having sex with a 30 or 40 year old. One, because they're older. Two, because many think of the age difference. Question is why is it so wrong for a 16 year old female to have relations with an 18 year old boy? The girl is usually more mature anyways and if she so chooses, well, what's so wrong? There are many technicalities and such and this was not said to condone that law.
Sex Sells:
Of course it does. One, if you're not getting any you want to know what you're missing out on. Curiosity is a big factor. Not much else to pen on that because it's precisely that. You see it every day and so do I. No need to expand!

It was 100 outside. I was sweating like a pig! I mean, I can do 90 degree heat when I'm in shorts and a T-shirt, but I was in sweats! I was simply trying to stalk the smelly pirate hooker because she called me "big man." And then she comes up with some wild story about how I was stripping; sure, I was, but not for the hell of it. And sure, I was dropping LSD all afternoon, which, admittedly, isn't the best thing I could have been doing, but I was bored and needed to make the bushes more interesting.

Actually, I love the topic of sex. I wanted to become a sexologist at some point, but now I'm leaning towards becoming a psychologist. Hehe, ANYWAY...sex is worth more than what we give it credits. Think about it. Sex is a public, political and social issue. There's also the same sex sex concept going on. What does it mean to have sex anyway? Oral sex and anal sex, does that count as sex? Would women say they lose their virginity if they are engaged in certain sexual activities that do not include sexual intercourse?
As for age, I don't see that doing anything but looking down on teenagers who already have done it. Look at Jamie Spears! When a baby is involved, things get a little bit more complicated. Did you know that if you're a 12 year-old pregnant girl, you have the right to get married in some states? And we can't even get gay people to married each other in more than one state.

and some women say they're not virgins even if they haven't had sex, as do men. i don't see why but eh... i personally don't think oral sex counts as "sex" but that's from my definition of it. oral sex is more in the foreplay category. of course definitions will differ as (on the subject of homosexuals) the definition of marriage does from person to person. on the age part i didn't think i was looking down on anybody. if i was i didn't mean to! if i misinterpreted your statement also sorry. i have alot of friends who have children and are teenagers or have them from their teenage years and i don't think anything about it. i go to their baby showers and baby-sit just as i would for a married female. as for the allowance of younger teenagers and marriage for pregnancies, i don't necessarily think that's wrong (i also don't think gay marriage is wrong). i can see how many parents would think that's a good idea for their children and the "responsible thing" to do. i can also see many pitfalls to that.
but alas, i don't make laws so i can't singlehandedly balance that.
