Crazy costs

Imagine feeling sick. Maybe your wife is having a kid. What are you taught to do? Dial 911. Wait, on the other hand, why don't you just drive there? So at first it sounds like a good idea. Why not? You are sick so get there ASAP.  So what would be wrong with that? Well let's hear a story.

About five months or so ago. One of my family members was getting in an argument with one of my aunts. They argued for a while, called the police, and in all of the stress, he began to feel sick. He had a heart problem, so my aunt called 911. And so he got there, they checked him. They saw nothing was wrong, so he returned home. So later comes the BILL. The ambulance alone was 1k. Yes 1,000. WE live about 4 blocks from the hospital. So my question is, why is the cost so great? Is it because the people who drive it, and the paramedics get paid so much? Or is it the cost of the injections they give you once you are inside?
With so many people that can't even support themselves, how can the costs be so high?

yuk nothing is for free anymore

Maybe it has to do with the equipment in the ambulance. We're also paying partly for the staff that is trained to take care of our medical needs in the ambulance. They paid a lot of money to be trained. But I'm not sure, just my thoughts.

All I know is if I don't have medical insurance, don't call me an ambulance. Take me in the car! It's so expensive to go for an ambulance ride.
