Most Controversial Election of our Time. 2008.

Step aside, conventional government, abnormality coming through.

The two most influential and controversial people of this election? Obviously, on the democratic side, there's Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Both of who, if elected president, would be the first of their "kind" to do so.

Barack Obama would proudly become the first black male president, which, in my opinion, would be huge step for the United States, as the Civil Rights movement was not even half a century ago. Hillary Clinton would hold her head high as she will be the first female to be elected president. But, according to many skeptics, this is where the problem holds.

Many believe Obama will misuse his power over the country and use it to benefit only "his" people. Which is what I find, blatantly ludicrous. Regardless of race, Obama is a decent candidate for presidency, although some of his new plans are questionable as to whether or not he will affect our economy too greatly and promptly in turn for the worst, his ideas are superb, just may need to be worked on before they are carried out. In my opinion of course.

This is apparent in Hillary Clinton, as well, because she is a woman. Many believe she will not be able to handle the pressure because, according to skeptics, every month, she will be in a more "fragile" position. This is even more dim-witted. Women are capable of anything men can, as long as she is driven and determined, which Clinton has proved as she was able to push through all of oppression she has been dealing with.

It's only February and for as long as i can remember, I have never heard of so much press on the primaries of an election. People have forgotten of Republicans, and are predominantly focused on who will win the Democratic primaries.

Whether or not Clinton or Obama win the presidency in the end, the fact that both were able to take the giant step of change for this country is impressive and inspiring. Their actions will hopefully motivate those who aspire to be all they can be, to reach for the stars, no matter what obstacles. They both independently broke down barriers which has been holding this great country of America back in the ancient times. Which is why, I applaud the acts of Clinton and Obama. So even if they do not win the war, they still won a most important battle.

This is a great post. I have seen the same problems, where people believe that either one of those candidates will only attempt to benefit 'their' people. You didn't mention that about Clinton, but I've heard some of those arguments as well, that she will only work to benefit women and not the country as a whole. I agree that Obama is a very solid candidate and that by everything he has shown so far, I do not believe he will get caught up in a crusade and lose sight of the fact that he is supposed to govern the entire country.

Kudos on attempting to make some people realize that while the election of either candidate would be an historic event (which I am very excited about), it is not what demographic the candidate fits into that is important but what they stand for and what they plan on doing while they are in office.
