Anabolic steroids are related to the hormone testosterone. It increases the synthesis of protein in cells. Increase in “androgenic and virilizing properties” can cause an increase of male characteristics such as growth of the vocal chords.
These steroids are used by some athletes to try and improve their game but these steroids are also used for treating cancer.
The longer one uses steroids the more harm it causes. Elevated blood pressure and increase of risk of heart disease is common from major-dose steroid users. For males, theses steroids cause the following: development of breast tissue (gynecostid) reduced sexual function, infertility, testicular atrophy. For women: body hair increase, voice deepening, enlarged clitoris and temporary decrease in menstrual cycles. If steroids are taken during pregnancy, it can affect fetal development. If teenagers take steroids, it may prematurely stop length of bones, acceleration of bone maturation and premature sexual development.
They are federally regulated as controlled substances because they can be used as medicine for AIDS and cancer.
Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 1990 was passed on November 29th, 1990. It labeled these steroids as “controlled substances” This law is enforced in every state. Each state has its own specific laws on these kinds of steroids. New York State labels controlled substances to any drug that is steroid and testosterone related.
Steroids should be only given to people who really need it. People who use it in sports are cheating; they are not giving others a chance. These steroid using athletes should not compete with non-steroid using athletes because it would not be a fair game.
what do you think?

I completely agree that it's unfair for athletes to use steroids. I think it's awful that it's something that people resort to. As I've discussed in my blog on academic cheating, I think it's such a shame that people are going to such means to be the best. I think it would be much more satisfying for an athlete to be successful purely on their own talent, hard work, and discipline without any help from something of this kind. And again, as I mentioned in another blog (this time about eating disorders) I find it awful that people are being encouraged to do these types of things to their bodies.
Sports should be about fun. not just winning.
steroids give players an unfair advantage in sports. these people that take steroids are just taking a lazy way to gain muscle mass. Barry Bonds, for example, has taken steroids and as a result has cheated his way to the top. steroids puts players on a whole different level than those that are not on steroids. also, steroids can be very damaging to the ones who take it. studies have shown that steroids can lead to extreme muscle damage later on. plus, it could lead to heart attack and stroke which could lead to death. steroids should be out of sports entirely.
Sad that we live in an era of steroids used for sports. What happened to the good old days? I think it is wrong that some athletes think it is okay to cheat the system and believe they are still in the right.
It is about winning though, you don't win, you don't get money. Winning should come from pure ability though, by which they were hired in the first place.

If an athlete has to take steroids to gain an edge, they were never that good or great of an athlete. First of all its cheating. WHO likes a cheater anyway? If you are good, you are good. Steroids don't make you a better athlete, they just reveal how horrible of an athlete you truly are. Secondly, it slow kills the talent they do have. I just don't see the point of steriods. WHat ever happen to hard work and determination?
Steroids have their own role, abusing substances would lead us straight to the doctor, so as with steroids. I don't find them dangerous substances, abusing them can be dangerous. We should keep this clear in mind and stop feeding our misconceptions about steroids. Why do you think people buy anabolic steroids?
