My body presses forward as my mind pulls
away from the world calling, seeking
for my death, my absolute undoing
is what I only dare to resist, I flee
from the darkness that trys hard
to consume the fire I have long
brought up out of ashes
which is the darkness
of my soul.

why again
what does this mean to you?

Sounds like suicidal tendandices to me. Maybe I'm being blind and only reading the first interpretation that comes to mind, but it seems pretty straightforward...you're a dark person, struggling against what you came from to be something else -- a fire from ashes as the ashes try to smother the fire. It's a lovely piece, though.
thank you for your interpretation. the most beautiful thing about poetry is that the writer can portray much more than they mean. And yes I do have suicidal tendencies (just watch me drive) the poem was intended to be about struggling against who I am because that's not who I want to be. Again, poetry is what you make of it.

I love the imagery. Amazing poet
Just because its a dark poem doesn't mean the poet's suicidal. I mean it can be there release, so that they DON'T become depressed; which may lead to sucide. Sometimes its good to get out what is eating you up inside. It can make you feel a whole lot better. I mean why do people blog in the first place? They're spilling out they're souls to the world, maybe so that they feel less burdened.
Haven't been on progressiveU for a while but it's encouraging to see a fresh response. This poem was sort of a find for me as well...this is the only place it appears, and I had completely forgotten about it. But looking back I immediately connect with the original emotion. Praise God that He saved me from that depression.
Poetry is a good 'release' but I do think that much can be learned of an author by the fiction that he writes. We seem to supress reality in our truth but openly reveal ourselves in our fiction. Maybe I'm just a fan of overanalyization...haha. Either way, poetry is defintately a good way...as you say..."to get out what is eating you up inside."

That's probably why it was amazing.
I read it again, and found another intake on it. I sorta imagined a Phoenix, from the way u mention the ashes and the fire. Does that make sense? Like its the death and re-born of the beautiful bird. just an insight.
