At first I wasn't going to join this blog, but thought, what the heck. I'm a non-traditional student, I'm in my mid 30's, the mother of 2 small children, in school full time, a wife, and still work part time. I commute over an hour each way to classes. I am not a tree hugging, head in the clouds liberal, so my views probably differ from many on this site.
One of the injustices I face is the inability to get any scholarships or grants.
I'm not a minority
I'm actually a legal citizen.
I (whoa, hold on to your hat!) do not live off of welfare, but work to pay my bills.
All of this means that I get screwed by the system. Because I chose to work, and not sponge off others, I make too much money to get any assistance. The government doesn't care that I'm trying to raise 2 children and keep food on the table and gas in my car. If I didn't work, and lived in low income housing (where my children may not be safe) I would have my education, house, and bills paid for. I feel as if this is reverse discrimination and a great injustice.
More to come...
