War to gain Peace?

It seems like forever that the human race has been fighting wars for the sole purpose of attaining peace. To me this sounds like a hypocrisy. Why would we seek out peace by destroying it?
This is a poem I wrote a while ago to get my message across, please read on and enjoy.

War

Bombs go off in the distance
As innocent children
And their families seek refuge.
Dust flies in all directions
And the air
Is filled with noise
Breathing in life
And breathing out destruction.
God once said
“Love thy neighbor
As you would thyself”
And “thou shall not kill.”
If we’ve grown deaf
Maybe we should learn
To see a little better.

By using war as a tool to gain peace we are hurting the world more than we are helping it. Think of the children in the middle of a town that is under siege. They don't know what is happening or why it's happening, all they know is that it is happening and that all they want is safety and peace. they're probably scared and lonely and maybe even separated from their families. This is what innocent people in the middle of a war have to deal with every day. Is this much pain and violence really going to result in peace? Why are we destroying what we are desperately trying to attain?

Was it peaceful before? Not always, especially not in Iraq.

In order to get peace, you need war. I mean, we don;t live in a perfect world, so you are always going to have someone who doesn't agree with the peace you currently have, and seek to change it. The only way to generally change things in government is to take over, usually by a violent means. Its the way that we humans run our governments and societies. Is it sad? Yes, but can we get around it? Not in any time that we will see
