In the morning I watch CNN Headline News. Lately I have been seeing ads for their new show "Planet In Peril". That got me thinking: How much do we really know about global warming. If you google it, you will come up with hundreds of sites all about the subject. But what do we really know? What have these people been telling us that's real? Whatching the TV in past few years, you have surely seen something about shows or special broadcasts with experts saying this is a very important issue.
While I do agree this is an issue we need to deal with, many people still think global warming is a crock. Even scientists are still arguing over whether or not global warming is real. People may not believe this is real because of the different information available. If you know where to look, it's great. Go to the government's website for the environment, the www.epa.gov (the EPA is the environmental protection agency. If people go to the wrong site and see outlandish things, they take the whole issue to be fake, or just something scientists say could happnen, but not for fifty billion years.
The environment is a very important issue. However, not necessarily for the reason of global warming. Global warming probably will not end the world for thousands of years. Also, with the recent research I have seen, it looks as though what we call global warming may be a cycle the earth is going through, and has gone through before. But we are speeding it up. Also, the result of this cycle could mean that we won't be able to live the same way we have been living. Also, if you watch the movie A Cinderella Story, starring Hilary Duff, her character makes the comment that you can't see the San Fernando Valley because of all the smog. Wouldn't you want to get rid of that anyway? Although I must ask the question: How do we know there is a hole in the ozone? If you cannot see the ozone, how can you see there is a hole in it?
Enough about that. If yoiu want to know more about the environment and global warming, yoiu can go to www.EnvironmentalDefense.org, www.AmericanProgress.org, or you can go to www.google.com and type in "Global Warming" or "the environment" this will give you a lot of information, and the EPA's website (link above), they have a lot of info on small things you can do for the environment. Have fun!

Kat,
Just because the EPA is a government agency, doesn't make it the "end all, be all" credible source of accurate information.
For instance, James Hansen, America's most notorious voice about global warming, is the head of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. He is also largely responsible for most of the misinformation and lies in Al Gores inconvenient movie. He is employed by our government but has received funding from socialist billionaire George Soros to the tune of 3/4 of a million dollars. He, like Al Gore is a fraud. More information on Hansen is available here.
The EPA has it's own agenda, self preservation. The more alarming the crisis, the bigger their budget will be.
The truth is that anthropogenic CO2 has no significant impact on climate change. Any intelligent person that takes the time to do a little homework will be able to figure it out.
hyperbole,
the one spreading lies and misinformation is you. Hansen did not receive that much, in fact he *refused* to take money meant as an award from an organization, and took only legal advice. See for example here.
Hello eveyone,
I just wanted to add on to what was been said about this issue. It has been proven that the government, acting in self interest, will cover up information to its people in order to maintain control of them. I believe that the environment is crying out for help and has been since the Industrial Revolution. We need to control all the products that we use and learn how to reuse things. We need to protect the environment for our children and their children. If we want a better life for both our future offspring we need to make changes now. Results of global warming could be seen as recently as the past week. There was a record high of temperatures for October in the late 70s to early 8os. I don't know about you, that type of weather is for August not October. Changes are all around us and we don't need the government or a movie made in Hollywood to tell us that. The facts are in front of our faces. Lets take action by reducing our waste for us and our future.
Kat, you brought up some interesting thoughts. One, that the earth is going through certain cycles, is definitely something to look into. From the research I've doen (i've done a project on it) sunspots are a likely cause for a warming of the earth. Little is known about the sunspots accept for a multi-year cycle they go through as far as intensity.
I also think you brought up a good point about CNN. My advice is that you have to be careful with what the media is telling you, because stories such as "planet in peril" are going to attract more attention than "possible warming of the earth over the next few thousand years." I personally do not think we are a cause of a global warming, if one exists, and I am skeptical about the research on CO2 and the "greenhouse effect." The effect of CO2 levels and heat are not proven at all and are often based on computer models that can easily be inaccurate due to the variables they cannot consider due to the lack of that knowledge.
