Why do we keep on going towards the Middle East? Do they want our opinions, religion, and our presence there? Apparently not.
Then why keep on going back? It is to make ourselves look better, and to prove to the world that we will not back down from anything.
But is our presence really doing anything? Of course it is not. The country of Iraq is still in the midst of chaos as we speak. Iran is doing activities behind our back, and are not listening to a word we say to them. Israel cries our help every time a group invades. We then go to help and lose men to a war that has no clear affect on the soldiers to begin with.
Our occupation in the Middle East should not be stopped fully, but it should not be the main focus of our foreign policy.
How about probably the worst continent in the world as of right now? Africa needs our attention the most!
The country is in more of chaos than the Middle East, but they do not shun America as the Middle East has. And we could benefit them more than the Middle East.
Our medical, science, etc are vastly needed their. Along with our education system needs to be introduced there now.
Another Continent Needs Our Attention

I believe it is because president bush and the government are ignorant.

Love comments? I do too!
The reason we have an interest in the Middle East can be summed up in one word: oil. We have a very strong national interest in keeping the Middle East stable and hopefully friendly.
Africa has some oil too. But not nearly so much.
I second that.
No matter what we're told, it's all about oil.
Africa scares the shit out of me. I mean we have the American army but even they lost in Veitnam. They definatly do need us more, though.
All of the thoughts here are true. Oil is the main reason, followed by the ignorance of the Bush administration, and the obvious.....they need our help.
But what about the war on terrorism? I am not going where you may think. We obviously have a responsability to keep our eye on terrorist activity wherever it is known to be as well as actively seek it. But what have we accomplished in this so called war? We have largely ignored Afghanistan, allowing the Taliban to regain a foothold and we have created a new "hotbed" for terrorist-to-be's in Iraq.
It seems to me that if we were being proactive in the make beleive war we started we would look at places like Africa, where radical muslim sects are over-throwing governments and engaging in a VERY REAL genocide which has, to date, eliminated over 300,000 people in Sudan.
These questions are long over-due and need to be addressed. If our government cannot bring themselves to actively fight to end genocide, then they should, at the very least, be willing to get involved for the sake of "their" made up war on terror.
I cannot be totally negative......props to president Bush and his recent photo-op, I mean, humanitarian aid trip to Africa where he delivered the much needed mosquito netting to help combat the spread of disease.

The Bush Administration has done more for Africa than any previous Administration by about ten-fold. The Bush Administration and the previous Republican Congress stepped up aid by tens of billions. Even Bono praised them.
It was actually the Clintons that made of habit of having photo-ops in Africa and THEN DOING NOTHING.
Oh wait .... Clinton did do something. He apologized for slavery on one of his trips. I bet that created a lot of jobs, filled a lot of empty bellys and treated a lot of people dying of AIDS.
