The United States of America, or are we? Every where you go you can find information about this religious group, or that racial group, or some other society out there trying to prove why they are better than the others or on the flip-side, why they are worse off and deserve more recognition (usually a racial issue). Whatever happened to the country just being united and working together? Why are you asked to state your race/ ethnincity on a job application/ scholarship application/ etc? Does it really matter?
Anyone reading this that falls under any racial group other than "White" is probably not going to be very happy with the rest of this blog but I honestly do not care, this isn't meant to be an attack on any specific group, or an attack at all anyways, simply something to say "hey, maybe this should be changed" where normally people just looked over it.
The country now-a-days is so worried about being "PC" and not hurting anyone's feelings that we forget that equality is supposed to include EVERYONE. Any time someone tries to point out an issue about equality that isn't part of the accepted minority group, they're outcast as being racist when in fact all they want is exactly what every racial group wants, equality in it's most simple form. If one group can have a history month, why can't another? If another group can have scholarships based on race alone, why can't others? No this isn't simply a rant about Whites not having a history month or scholarships, it's about the fact that it can't even be considered without someone throwing out "RACIST!" and making the person feel guilty because of their race, is that not in itself racism?
On a small side note, why is it that you can break hispanics down into various different types of Hispanics (Spanish, Cuban, Puerto Rican, etc) but Whites are stuck with "White" and not "euro-american" or being of various different backgrounds (Germany, British, Russian, etc)?
On a more personal note, I'm all for having Black History Month and Hispanic History Month (just to name a few) but I don't understand why I'm not allowed to celebrate my own heritage. I've been told on numerous occasions that every other month is White History Month but it's not, there is no celebrated White History Month. The same holds true for scholarships. Racial rights groups would throw riots if a scholarship appeared for Whites based on ethnicity alone but they're all for Black/ Hispanic/ Asian Pacific Islander/ etc. Where's the equality?
Many people like to argue that Whites never went through the oppression that the other groups went through and that's why they shouldn't be included, but how are they not? In the current day they are made to feel guilty of their race anytime they question racial equality. Not to mention the constant backlash that's thrown on them during the various history months for how cruel they were to the other races. Most of the people actually involved in many of those issues have passed on by now, so why can't the grudge? In addition, there were plenty of times in the past where "Whites" were oppressed (ie: Holocaust, which does not deal only with Jewish peoples but also with any others, regardless of race, that did not meet Hitler's idea of the perfect person). With all due respect, if Whites hadn't left England in the first place to settle in America for freedom from the oppression there, the United States wouldn't be the country it is now.
If I haven't convinced anyone that there is a problem yet, or that it needs attention, then there really isn't anymore I can do about it other than hope that some day equality will be just that, equal.
