Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, and AE

I dont understand why people say that if you wear clothes from Hollister, Abercrombie, or American Eagle that you are officially labelled a prep?

I personally only get my jeans at Hollister, because its the only company that has made jeans that perfectly fit my body type. I am in no way a prep, nor can I be labelled under any certain "group" of people that tend to wear similar types of clothing.

Whats the point of labelling anyways? All it does is create tensions between "cliques" of people and forces people to generalize alot of things just because of the clothes you wear.

For instance.... just because someone shops at Hot Topic doesnt mean that all they listen to is screamo music and love sharp objects.

Same with people who shop at say... Pac Sun... it doesnt mean that every other word they say is "dude" or "sweet"

Dont generalize people! Its pointless and stupid.

Dude, I shop at PacSun. Guys who shop at Hollister get labeled as "metro." AE and Ambercrombie get you "prep" over here. Hot Topic is commercialized punk/hardcore gear which is ironically antithetical to punk itself. The friends I have rarely bring this type of superficiality up but even then it really hasn't mattered in my experiences.

Oh i wish...almost yearn for broad satements based on clothes or anything that lets me know that people at least think a little out here. Out here you shop at kamrt or walmart or drive an hour and a half...even then there are no cool places like Hot Topic or Pac Sun

I think it's more the type of people who go there. I mean, I personally don't wear name brand clothing, but the people I know who do usually are superficial people. I mean, if you just happen to like a certain brand of clothing and are a cool person, then good for you! I just have met people who shop only at hollister because of prestige? I don't know what to call it, but they think that because they shop at hollister it makes them better than everyone else who can't afford it. They also think that stores like Hollister only hire people who are good looking. So you can see why I'm biased.

I don't think that's really true. I don't think anyone labels you for your jeans. I mean, they won't even know where you bought them, unless you tell them. But, when people go around wearing an entire Hot Topic wardrobe, or people wear shirts with huge Abercromie logos every day, I think people are going to label them because it's obnoxious, and they kind of observe it. If people would just express themselves and wear creative styles, they wouldn't get labeled at all.

AH I HATE ALL of these brands!!!!!
WHY in the world would you spend that much money on clothes?
I shop at goodwill and get shirts for 2 dollars while shirts at these store are 25 dollars at the least. I can get at least 12 shirts for that!!!
AND I hate when people call themselves preps and wear abercrombie.
people who wear abercrombie are NOT preps.
preps are those who wear ralph lauren and lacoste.
period.

Yeah, I hate how clothing labels label you. For some reason, Im not a part of my race if I dont wear Baby Phat or Roca Wear. Its pretty sad the way our society works.
