How do I go about making people Shut the hell up when the professor is lecturing. I don't want to be a bitch but what should I do?
I am NOT in the mood to put up with the constant talkers for any more class periods. This happens not only in my Sociology course, but I can not believe people also have the nerve to hold side conversations during CHEMISTRY.
First off- I thought a harsh stare would get the point across and show my annoyance at their chatter.
Second- When that was not enough, I gave a couple more mean stares, which sufficed for a peaceful five minutes of lecture without their talking in the background.
I thought that once the professor had even tried to shut them up- they would keep quiet. Wow, I have finally come across people with such guts to continuously disrespect and act ignorant.
If they do this once more, I am going to confront them and see what they say... about what and why they have been holding their conversations while I am trying to learn about polyatomic ions and ionic and covalent compounds (structure and formulas).
Anyone else had to give someone a piece of their mind?

Oh boy... I feel your pain.
In the end, confronting them will only give them the satisfaction of knowing they are irritating you when they are talking. You'll have to deal with this for the next four years... so you'll just have to figure out how to focus when there are people in the background. In my experience, as you advance, the dumb people drop out, and classes get quieter. That's the best advice I can give you.
I've met people with such blatant disrespect for their classmate and teacher, I hope they will shut up, because I am not the only one who is pissed off at the constant buzz i have to put up with during my lectures.

Wow... these are juniors?
I changed my mind. You should say something. That's ridiculous. Good luck!
it's a chemistry with lab course and so it's mixed with all years
but the few who talk seem to be younger (usually freshman take bio first but i'm not too sure about these specific persons)
in the beginning, just a few stares were enough to make the talkers shut up, but these couple of people--- they better not talk the next time, or that's it--- i'm totally telling them to talk outside of class nicely, first and if they don't shut up...it's war
our chemistry professor has a really low tone of talking so their chatter always messes me up...

The same thing happened this morning, and actually happens every morning in my Organic Chemistry II class. I turned around and in fact they were very young.
I've tried to ask them to be quiet but they don't care, or they just forget. I don't know. But I realized that I was paying too much attention to what they were talking about. So I decided to just focuse on the lecture like the professor was talking just to me, so and I needed to show atention to him like it was a one to one conversation..... The strangers chatting became just background and I was amazed of how much of the class I understood that day.
From that day I do than in every class, I pay attention like I am the only one there and it is working great.

I sit in the FIRST row and behind me, all that buzz and chatter still drains out the professor because she is always near her board ---lecturing, writing and moving about--- she talks VERY LOW, that is just how she is and she herself has tried to shut these people up, they remain quite for a while but start talking again later on.
i am trying to find a solution because it really is distracting during the lecture.

I've had the same problem in my early chemistry classes, halfway through the semester the professor threw them out of class. It got really bad, they had their friends coming in and out of the room and laughing/talking etc. It was awful. Good luck, if it does get really bad I'd suggest complaining to the dean. Ususally they can do something.
I wrote abouty this a couple days ago.
