'god'

Before I got used to this sight, I didn't realize so many other people had already written blogs about the same exact thing. (and some with more detailed and better points) I don't like repetitiveness, but I'm going to keep this.

Have you ever questioned 'god,' or Christianity for that matter? Yeah me too, but after a while, I stopped questioning it, and started disagreeing with it. The only answer I could come up with is... Stop looking for an answer. Stop looking for the meaning of life. The purpose most religions serve is to give people an answer for why we are here. Although there are no answers people continually look towards religion for a sort of comfort.

I'm not here to judge, or tell you you're wrong. I'm not evil or hateful just because I don't believe in a god. I just beleive that religion is nothing worth conflicting over. For thousands of years people of diverse religions have faught and killed and for what? Over who's right and wrong? It's quite ridiculous.

One thing that put things into perspective for me was the book: Letter to a Christian by: Sam Harris. He knew how to say exactly what I've always thought. In the book he points out the negatives of christianity, and how the bible contradicts itself. I have found in my own personal studies that, the bible contradicts itself more than just the points he makes in the book, but he also makes many other great points. I think it is a must read.

I remember when my mom found out I didn't believe in 'god.' She was astounded. She wanted to put me in counceling. My best friend was even sceptic about it. You see; my mom was a big-time Baptist, and my best friend was a big-time Catholic, and neither of them listened to my reasonings... So I never tried to explain. You see, if someone wants to know, they will ask. If they don't want to know they won't ask. Then for my sixteenth birthday, my 'best friend' gave me a bible. Inside the bible was a note that read:

-"I know you're against the whole god thing, but I know that when I'm having a hard time I just read this and it helps me through."

I was greatful for the gift, and was happy that she cared. I didn't know if she was implying that I seemed to be going through a hard time (what with the lack of 'god' in my life) or what, but I couldn't help but feel she was trying to change me. We drifted apart after that.

Amen to that. lol
And spaces in between paragraphs make blogs easier to read. :-)

That was my first blog, so any helpful tips are welcome!

Like you said people are killing each other for what? How do we even know if what we hear is true. I believe in god but I don't think people should judge others just because of their religion.
