Suffrage-ly Active Minors?

I can't begin to tell you how amazed I am at the fact that the primaries are still going full force. It is absolutely unbelievable! Primaries normally drop off after super Tuesday. I guess what I want to blog about isn't how controversial this years election will be. No. I actually want to comment on how ridiculous it is that I cannot vote because I won't be of age until a couple months after the general election.

Yes, I realize that I'm not even going to get to vote for the president directly but i should have that option to choose. One person, one vote; right? I will be graduating high school this May. However, as stated earlier, I will not be able to cast my ballot because I will not turn eighteen until January of 2009. I will a freshman in college but I cannot decide the people who will be having tremendous effect on my future.

I don't want the voting age changed to 17. In actuality, my parent's child support gave me a good idea on how to address this problem. Why not save the current age, which I think is fair enough, but include a provision that speaks about high school graduation. Whichever comes first. That way students such as I do not have to suffer through a passionate government class with no hope for active ballot casting.

What do you think?

I like your idea and think it's a good one, though I'm sure someone somewhere will find something that could cause it to have problems, even though I can't think of any. I can understand how frustrated you must feel towards this, since I will also be a few months shy of voting(but I will not be graduating highschool this year- I'll be a senior next year) and the people who do turn eighteen before election day in my class are the ones who aren't going to vote anyway. It's very frustrating to me.

To be honest, I've thought about it for awhile and I think I may write my congressman about it. Really, its not that huge of a difference.
