With the primaries in full swing, many Americans are asking the question, "Are we ready for an African American President?" Maybe because I've grown up a part of this generation but the answer to me is a clear "Yes." Even though I live in a small town in a very conservative county in the 98% white state of West Virginia, I can say that I am completely willing and ready to vote for an African American President. Barack Obama has been a candidate whose campaign has revolved around a "New kind of politics." The fact that he and I do not share the same skin color doesn't make much of a difference to me. His background and the story of his youth represent the fact that he a well-rounded man who has experienced a variety of things. Barack Obama represents a candidate who is concerned about poor communities, the rights of all Americans, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, health care and our future as a more united country. I see past the color, religion, and a variety of other things and focus on thing such as the issues and the candidates positions on these issues. Does the color of a candidate's skin affect your vote/opinion? If so than why?

The sad thing is that America should not even have to ask that questions, are we ready for a black president. Race should not matter at all, it should be based on his issues alone. But who am i kidding, race will always matter.

While I do not think that religion has any place in the pledge, it still doesn't. The word God is ambiguous and could stand for any god. Your god, their god. Not my god; he doesn't exist.
But, it is a sign of patriotism, which is something you'd want in a potential president. Any president that doesn't seem patriotic is in the wrong career.

Don't get me wrong; I don't say the pledge. My reason is that I refuse to pledge any sort of allegiance with a flag which, in my mind, currently represents the epitome of evil. I used to say it. I used to be proud to say it. Now I find the pledge offensive to say because saying it would make me a liar. I'm a lot of things; I'm not a liar, mostly.
HOWEVER, I feel that if you want to run a nation of people who feel that the pledge is something to be revered (not like a god, but as a symbol of patriotism), then you should at least PRETEND to give a flying fuck, you know?

It's genius in some aspects, since there are blacks who will vote for Obama because he's black as well as women who will vote for Clinton because she's a woman.
Ideally, we should look at each candidate as a human being as well as the candidate's platform.

Well, I guess I can't say much about Clinton because I don't really follow her too closely, but Obama, based on his platform, is respectful toward the average American. Which is "We the People".

Not only are civil unions like second place, it institutes a hierarchy of marriages, calling a marriage between two males (or two females) less than one between a male and a female.
Universal health care is a socialistic idea, where those that have are FORCED to support those who have not. Having the unfortunate position of having been one who had not (my family was so poor, dirt was a luxury), I know it's possible to pick yourself up.
Guns are always going to be part of society, whether we outlaw them or not, criminals will have them. And I am not one to let a criminal be superior to myself.

I actually didn't know his stand on gay marriage. Ergh. His position upsets me.
But wouldn't it be nice to be able to afford basic necessities while picking yourself up?
I'm currently in a situation where I have a bacterial infection in my stomach, miss months of school each school year, but cannot afford treatment.
I do oppose universal health care because it gives less incentive to doctors and all that, but health care really isn't a big issue to me.
The fact that having a gun tucked under your bed for the slim chance that someone will come into your house at night with a gun is a comforting idea, but I can't say I know anyone who has experienced that. Guns are dangerous, especially for kids rummaging around the room without a parent around, which is bound to happen no matter what.
And the fact that Obama doesn't put his hand over his heart doesn't detract from his morality. Also, I never actually said I support Obama. My favorite candidate is McCain. Which I know seems contradictory to some of my political views, but my major deal with this presidency is the war. And who of the candidates knows about war better than McCain?

The war on terror was a mistake to begin with. And I do support the troops, only because I don't want to EVER have to join their ranks. While, yes, I would love the opportunity to kill a couple of people (I can think of 10 off the bat), I don't want them to be trying to kill me before I try to kill them!
And it's not like the US has been attacked, specifically, since 2001. The "terrorists" have been attacking foreign nations because they've already seen that we're insane! The US has more than half of the world's nuclear weapons and we just automatically assume that A) we're the only ones that deserve them and B) we're right. Who said that other governments are just as (if not more) effective than Representative Democracy?
Why wasn't the power to declare war given to the people? It was given to congress because the people wouldn't have access to the same kind of information and Congress was most eaisly provided the information. We now live in a world where I can pick up a telephone and in seconds be talking to someone in main land India. Haji (the man I was just on the phone with) is actually an IT tech in Bangledash!

The Founding Fathers would have thought it was a "sure thing" that death was irreversible, yet there are people brought back after minutes of death. All we have to do is find the gene that tells cells to die off and turn that gene off. We find away to move consciousness from man to machine. We find away to figure out how to rejuvinate the body.
