Parting the Waters is a book written by Taylor Branch in 1988. It took 10 years to obtain all of the information that was put in the book. All 1060 pages is every bit true. The main part of the novel speaks of the turbulent times when racism was a very brutal, hot topic. Martin Luther King Jr. is mentioned throughout the book, going from his parents birth to his death but it also speaks of civil rights leaders like the freedom riders and sit-in veterens.
In the first part of the book, it tells of how negroes where treated back in the 1800's and about the very hard times that they had to go through just to survive. It is very upsetting to see that my ancestors could be so cruel.
As i read on I noticed much didn't change other that a law here or there but that doesn't mean that it wasn't upheld. I have thought much on this particular book and it has led me to beleive that the only thing that has really change in the subject of racism is the laws are upheld or else, in most of the people head it is a mindset that they cannot control due to the way that they were raised. How sad is that? Also it shows how dirty the government can be. I have to ask one more time - How sad is that?
I by far and away recommend this book to people that ae interested in making a doffence in the workd because it lets you see what people really think and gives you a behind the scene look on what isn't mentioned on tv or news papers. I beleive it is very inspiring.
Everyone should give it a chance.
