It is a sad realization that "genocide" has been and remains a word in our dictionary. Why is it that after countless examples of the destruction that it brings on, during the Holocaust and in Rwanda, why does it continue?
History Repeats Itself. Sure, that's something that can be argued--and probably proven. But it's also an excuse. An easy way out. It is within our power to do something about the situation in Darfur, Sudan.
How many people even know that there is a genocide going on right now? It is time that we all stopped being so darn self-centered! Sure, we all have our own problems. But it is--or atleast, it should be--our responsibility to help those less fortunate than ourselves. Because when you think about it, atleast we have a house to live in.
People complain about the government. Yeah? Well, atleast they're not killing you.
Why is it that when we try to do something good, we find roadblocks everywhere, but starting a genocide? Psh. That's child's play!
My rant about this is fueled by the fact that no one seems to care for the person next to them anymore. I try to raise money at our school for Darfur, but apparently, I need to get permission from the principal, who then has to contact the Board of Education, who then have to review my request, assess that the funds are necessary and then make a decision.
PEOPLE ARE DYING.
How about that for necessary?
