In our MTV Rock the Vote generation, it's sad to see that we are the beginning of the end of decades of progressive young thinkers. Not only as American Idol and the OC come to epitomize the essence of our generation, but we welcome more of this useless media garbage. When are we going to realize how dull of a society we've become and start caring about more useful issues? Where have all the Betty Friedan and Jack Kerouac's gone? As most teenage girls chase after the newest Dooney and Bourke bag, thousands of child soldiers are being coerced into military action in Africa. What a lame generation this society is becoming. Come on guys, make a change.

Well atleast someone else is not brain dead.
I was watching the news today and they were talking in really dramatic voices with dramatic music so I said to myself "Wow, this must be something catastrophic and detremental to the nation's welfare." Well it turns out that some actress from Desperate Housewives got a piece of glass stuck in her eye. I found myself laughing aloud then being disgusted. WHY did that make the news?
The media broadcasts stories that the public will tune into, and obviously people care more about Paris Hilton's latest sex tapes, what Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going to name their baby and what celebrity found a new partner. I understand tabloid magazines making it their business to produce such important crises stories like those but being bombarded with it on the regular news?
I am afraid of what will happen when our generation is all grown up. I hope the air headed masses do not take over because we will surely be doomed. It scares me to think of the values many of our peers will instill in their children, infact with many teens nowadays only concerned with superficial things and living for the moment maybe they will all die before it is time for them to have children.
We live in a time when we have so many more opportunities afforded to us than our parents and grandparents and we can effect such great change yet all we can think of doing is going on myspace and decorating our page with glitter and music. It is really depressing.
Oh yeah, I heard that earlier today. It cracks me up that, of all the news that could be reported, that is the one they report. Yay America! (Sarcasm)
The MTV Rock the Vote is sad. We have to have a station dedicated to showing complete trash like Laguna Beach and the Real World tell us how to vote? Are you serious? Mass-Media, instead of allowing the spread of information has allowed people to take in more entertainment than ever. But most teenagers don't care. There is no compelling reason to. Think about- when most of the pressing concerns involve whether some girl really likes them or not who cares about other nations? I hate to say it, but our nation needs something huge to happen- something that will wake us up to what is going on in our world.
This generation is actually called the generation that "just doesn't care"
and the sad thing is that we don't care enough about that to change the public's view of us. ha.

I am an extraordianry machine.
While it's important to be politically active and socially aware, I don't think it is necessary to completely discount pop culture. Entertainment does have a place within our society, but it obviously is less important than other things.
The media's in a tail spin and it doesn't look like there's an end in sight. This is really unfortunate because the people of our generation heavily depend on the media. It influences what we do and think. In order to look past this, I think we have two options. Number one: Try to influence media to change for the better. Two: Just ignore it. The second is virtually impossible, so we should see where option one takes us. Only problem is, where do we start?
