I'm rather fond of statistics.
Even if they're not always accurate and perphpaps only give a limited, manipulated view, I get a kick out of percentages and [ ] out of [ ]s..In some way, I suppose I find comfort in the idea of making things so black and white; so easy to understand. However, there is one statistic that I've been hearing far too much on my campus- that 1/4 teenage girls have allready contracted at least one STD..As a teenage female, that statistic is more than slightly disheartning. But at the same time, what does it say for the boys seeking out the girls who have interpretated the term "freshman fifteen" as the number of guys they're supposed to sleep with their first year? What does it say about their std count? where iare their statistics???It makes me question the appeal of causal sex, which is one thing I've never understood, let alone experienced....
I'm definitly more for the mental/emotional connection then the physical. I think to really enjoy the latter you have to have the former. Maybe its naive or innocent, as I've never had sex casually, or, outside of "love"..but I think once you have that emotional connection- it gives it more meaning- its not a carnal act; but giving yourself over to another person- being able to give them physical pleasure as an outward manifestation of your internal feelings; an outpouring of your emotion.. is just..theres no words for it. And without it, I think it would just be so hollow and empty and well, selfish? Which is something I can not understand wanting. To quote Janos Pilinsky: "on a fully broken in animal's back, a fully broken in animal rides." ...It just doesn't sound appealing to me; I feel that it would defile all of my innocent and idealistic ideas about sex- and I'm rather fond of them.

i thought this was interesting!!
"freshman fifteen"
Shux, i've always heard this saying when people refer to adding fifteen lbs. Shit.
And well, Treehugger weighed in on the subject.... http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/02/how-to-green-your-sex-life.php

The freshman fifteen remark was my weak attempt at being witty...
as to the Treehugger thing.......I have no words lol
Kaitlyn.
...huh. Was the stat only on girls? That's rather... sexist, to say the least. It takes two to tango, and typically the male has more control over the encounter and over whether or not protection is used.
I see nothing wrong with casual sex - sex is fun, sex is pleasurable. You might like to unwind with a bubble bath and some hot chocolate, you might like to unwind with a glass of wine or a joint, you might like to unwind with some good sex. As long as both people are a) physically safe, b) emotionally safe, and c) consenting, why not?
