Public schools=bad teachers?

Many parents today believe their children aren't recieving a descent education in public schools. Many are turning to home schooling. However, how can parents judge the teaching methods of public school teachers if they don't view the classroom? If they think the teachers aren't doing their jobs, they need to think: Well what are we, as parents doing to help them as well? Home schooled students or private schooled students who apply themselves are doing just as well as any publicly school student.

Many highschool students don't take into consideration that they are recieving a free educaton. In other countries students are struggling to get into schools and and are striving to do great. Students in the US slack-off and don't even take it seriously. That's the problem! Its not the teachers! They are throwing every bit of information they have at the students and hoping that one of them will absorb it and learn form it. The students aren't learning because they don't care to. The teachers that are hired go through a series of interviews and applications before even becomming considered for a position. They work hard as well.

Parents need to realize that the teachers are doing their part, now, when are the students going to step it up?

wow, shocking as it is, i was just talking to my english teacher about this same thing this past week! if you notice its pretty much a parent that should be blamed if anyone is to truely be blamed. the children that sleep in class is that not just a reflection on the manners that their parents well apparently didn't teach their children. it does bug me that parents think they can teacher better than a TEACHER who went to school to learn how to properly TEACH! but what can you do about it?

Some students are. I think it's a mixture of both actually. Some teachers are just to old to be teaching anymore and their negitive attitude grates on the kids. I've had teachers like that but I've also had teachers that make students laugh all through the class.

I agree that students take for granted public schools, but part of a teachers job is making the student passionate about the subject. I've known and had teachers who are inspirational to students. A friend of mine had a teacher who, for lack of a better phrase, made learning fun. She shot up from a 2.3 to 4.0 gpa. So while public schools would certainly be better if students put more into them, but it's a teacher's duty as well.

I think a lot of parents are also moving their kids to public schools because they have advanced classes etc that public schools dont have. I wanted to go to a private school, but it wasnt because I had bad teachers, its because there were no AP classes and I wasnt being challenged enough in the gen ed classes that I was in.

Yes she blogger has a pt. The bigger problem is the culture in our schools... maybe a few children need to be left behind to convince the rest its worth putting a little effort into their education.

We do have problems with bad teachers and teachers unions in a few places. But its not a pervasive problem outside of New York, and other large places where teachers unions rule the roost.

There are some teachers who just can't teach. At my old high school, the teachers there were great, but when I moved, I found the teachers to be worse. Honestly, it depends on the school and the students. My old school was big and full of students who were willing to learn, while my new one is smaller and full of less motivated students.

Homeschooling is a great way to get your child ready to fail out of college.

I think what it really comes down to is parents feeling that their jobs as educators stop when their child steps foot into a school. It doesn't. Parents must stay active in a child's education so that the child doesn't feel as if he is in it alone.

It is very important for the students to take an active role in their education, and - if necissary - for their parents to aid them in doing so. A couple of my teachers were amazing teachers and they used good methods to try to get the students more involved, but they got a lot of crap because so many students today just blow it off.

For the most part teachers know what they are doing. But students have to have the will to want to learn. And that goes back to the parents. Parents can't just send their children to school and hope for they to see the importance of an education and learn. They have to instill the value of an eduycation into their children. How can student be expected to learn if they don't know why it is important from the beginning?
