Both a rebel yell and offensive blurt , this saying has been used within punk culture for years. The purpose of the police is to protect and serve the community, which we should be thankful for. However, this saying doesn't pick the individuals who protect the community but the symbol of oppression. The idea of losing your freedom of speech, expression, or the right to protest infuriates people fighting to exercise and protect them. People who do more then scream " anarchy, anarchy!," don't want to be silenced by the police state. Crimethinc.com puts out a good documentary on the WTO protest in Seattle if you want some examples. Another thing this means is the power trip that some police officers can get, those who quickly judge people based on what they’ve seen, because “police brutality isn’t a dream”. The power of the people is being taken away, replaced by money and greed and the search for profit. Many feel that the probability of rights being lost is very real in our future as many of those in place to help us in the government treat the American people like pawns. Preventing Orwell and Huxley from being right and bringing about the change they really want is the meaning behind the saying.

You make some very good points. Thank you for providing us with your view of the subject! I think that not all police are good, and not all are bad. There are both.
