American Gladiators, Knight Rider, WTF???
So I’m laying on my couch flick through the channels waiting for the water to boil when I notice something strange on the NBC line up: American Gladiators followed by Knight Rider. The first thing I thought was “What in God’s name are we doing?”
Now I love violence, talking cars, and spandex as much as the next American but, why are we going backwards? In the words of Lewis Black “We’re going backwards! We’re going fucking backwards!” Are we as a people so afraid of change that we crave our old television shows so much that reruns will not satisfy our appetites for nostalgia to the point where the networks have to bring back the ‘classics’? On one hand I have to say ‘yes’ due to the evidence already presented. Yet, on the other hand, we are also a people of change. For example, the hundreds of channels containing shows of almost every subject matter and form of entertainment known to man.
If they are going to bring back the classics why not bring back the real ‘classics’ like “All in the Family” or “The Honeymooners”. Bigotry and domestic abuse have never been funnier. The networks know what the American people like, why can’t they bring fresh material? Give us a show that is “Knight Rider meets the American Gladiators” an original show with all the aspects and goodness of the old shows. At least that way it will feel like we are making progress. But, hey, I don’t watch that trash.
If you are looking for talking inanimate objects and violence (sorry no spandex) there was a show called “Heat Vision and Jack” just a little project involving Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, and Jack Black. It’s available on YouTube. Now this is the kind of trash I would watch.

American Gladiator, was in theory a fantastic idea to revisit. The first generation of this show had great success, and the Nickelodeon Guts generation is in their early/mid twenties, creating whole new audience for the show.
Knight Rider on the other-hand, was an unfortunate side effect of the strike...
I never saw American Gladiators, but I've never really thought to watch it, so I'd say it was a pretty bad idea to start it and bring it back. As for Knight Rider...it doesn't even sound like a T.V. show.
OMG NO I'M MISSING THE AMERICAN GLADIATORS FINALE!!!! *runs*
With the reunion tour of New Kids on the Block, it seems like everyone's on the bandwagon in the spirit of nostalgia. The CW is filming 90210, planned for the fall. Last-generation toys and games are once again hitting store shelves.
Maybe there is no more genuine fresh idea creativity left.
