Reality TV...It's an addiction. It has turned marriage into a joke, hard-workers into slackers, and everyone else into zombies in front of the television. How has televison become the heart of American life? Sure, everyone has their own show that they watch every week, but is it really worth it? I ask myself this everyday when I get home from school. Homework, or TV first? I would love to say work first play later, but these shows are addicting!
My personal opinion: Reality TV has destroyed the image of family life. Shows like Flavor of Love, The Bachelor, and others have destroyed the tradition of marriage. It can't just be in a church or a garden with close friends and family anymore, no; it has to compose of 20-30 men or women, who will gradually be eliminated in order to find "true love" with cameras constantly hassling you.
Not only marriage of course, money is a huge factor in Reality TV. Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race, etc. is chalk-full of competition, greed, and deceit. Everyone is backstabbing for that beautiful "One Million Dollars" at the end. Sure money doesn't grow on trees, but I know I wouldn't exploit myself on television just for an extra buck.
So I ask, has Reality TV gone too far? Destroying one's integrity and traditions is reason enough for me.

Hey some of these are good. I watch Dr.Phil, and crime shows like forensic files. But aside from these I find the other shows to be a joke, parents should limit tv for the kids, so they learn to live with limited quantaties.
I agree that some shows are good. I am an avid forensic files watcher also, but that's just one show of many...
Some of the reality shows are good. You are right that these shows are destroying the qulity of American family. In the business perspective and entertainment industry, reality shows are a huge deal because they attract more and more audience. Increasing in audience that means, more money that the network can make. Everything comes down to money.
I do agree that many reality shows ARE good; I enjoy watching crime-solving shows such as forensic files, CSI (even though it's not REAL crime) and most of the other shows on Crime TV and etc. And yes, money is becoming way too much of a NEED instead of a WANT.
Well I don't care about Traditions, they are made to be replaced with newer and better things. But as far as the loss of Integrety, that is Definately a problem. Greed, deciet, violence, paranoia, and fear saturate television. There is a simple solution though. I just turn it off! hahaha!
Most people who like reality shows are rather uneducated. No wonder they're so popular.
That really IS funny :D
Seriously, the reality shows are rather sickening. Must be why I read instead of watching TV nowadays...
I'm sorry but I don't agree that most of the people who watch reality shows are uneducated...because most of my family have college degrees and enjoying watching Survivor and Amazing Race....Yes some people backstab and are greeding on the show, but if you think about....if you didnt do these things how fast you would be voted off or arrive in last at the pit stop....some of the things that were mentioned corrupt american families but doesn't it also fall into competition?
