Martin Luther king Jr. brought out every man, woman, and child’s dream. That dream, the dream that so many hope for, is freedom! Mr. king wanted that dream to come true for African Americans. Even though slavery had been abolished, African Americans were still being treated with inequality and disrespect! He stood up for his race. On August 28, 1963, during his mass march to Washington D.C., he delivered his famous speech “I Have a Dream” (ea.groiler.com). In this speech he spoke about the fact that America has a promissory note that states, “All Men are Equal.” He also spoke about “The Pursuit of Happiness” (Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream).
Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was born in Atlanta Georgia. He was a leader in American Civil Rights. He won the Nobel Peace prize in 1964. He achieved national fame as a leader of the 1955-1956 Montgomery, Alabama bus boycott. On August 28, 1963, during his mass march on Washington D.C., he delivered his famous speech “I Have a dream.” On April 4, 1968, he was shot and killed in Memphis Tennessee by James earl Ray (ea.groiler.com). He was truly an inspiration to his race!
In his speech “I Have a Dream,” he spoke of two very important key factors that helped begin America. He spoke about the fact that “All men should be equal” (Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Speech). When our founding fathers wrote this they meant that all rich, white men should be equal. They did not consider the fact that African Americans, women, and the poor have the same right that they do in being free! African Americans, women, and the poor can do the exact same things that rich, white men can do. African Americans, women, and the poor can think the same way that rich white men can. So why didn’t anyone enact this saying? Probably because they thought that African Americans, women, and the poor were inadequate.
Another key factor that King mentioned in his speech was “The Pursuit of Happiness” (Martin Luther king Jr., I Have a Dream). How can anyone be happy if their ancestors were put through slavery and they were being treated unequally and with such hatred and disrespect? “The Pursuit of Happiness.” Happiness being the key word! How could our founding fathers have said and written this and then only applied it to the rich, white men in America? Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of a dream. A dream that one day little white children could hold hands with little black children (Martin Luther King Jr., I Have a Dream). He was an encouragement not only to his race, but to others as well.
Martin Luther King Jr. brought out the dream of every living person. The cause in this paper was Mr. King standing up for his rights and the rights of his race. The effect in this paper was the gathering together of a race and eventually racial equality in America! He was so passionate for what he believed in that his life was taken away from him for it. Other then God and my grandmother, Mr. King is my hero! He has inspired me in many ways! He inspired me to stand up for my beliefs! Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man that changed the history of America!
