Sue the bastards, fast food #1 cause of obesity?

Tagged:  •

To many americans, fast food is the #1 reason 1/2 of america is fat.  However it really is unhealthy but you choose when you should eat it and how many times a week you eat it.  If you do not want to be obese than you should know that McDonald's and Burger King are unhealthy foods to consume more than once a week or even once a month.

I watched a movie in my foods class today about fast food restaurants and how unhealthy they are for your average american.  The movie was called "Supersize me".  Its about an extremely healthy man that decides to go on a McDonalds diet, he consumes McDonalds everyday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  This man became very unhealthy by only a week into the diet, he had gained 15 pounds in only 5 days.  Thats unbelieveable!  As he went on through his diet he would interview many americans and they all agree that it is really bad for you but should not be sued or hurt in anyway because it is a choice of yourself, they are not forcing you to buy this unhealthy food.

Fast Food restaurants are only an easy way out for an obese person to blame their obesity on, when really the blame should be on themselves for not taking better care of themselves.

I think I'm going to start eating ramen noodles everyday and drive Maruchan out of business.

Yes, if you choose to go to Micky D's or BK then you shouldn't sue someone over your choice. People know that stuff is bad for you. Sometimes I choose Micky D's over the food in the school cafe' because it is cheaper (the dollar menu!). Even though it is cheaper, it is very unhealty. Micky D's and BK sell salads, but after all that dressing is put on it, it's not better than anything else on the menu. The simple solution would be to eat the salad raw...but then it doesn't taste good. LOL! But anyway, getting better eating and exercising habits will combat this in obese people. Also, for people with very high metablolisms, this type of food isn't good for you either! :)

I most definitely agree with you on this. It is the easiest scapegoat to blame, but there are plenty of fast easy things to make at home that are half the calories. I found out that a large fry is 570 calories. That is almost a third of the calories we should be consuming in a day. Ridiculous.

They shouldn't sue fast food companies for becoming obese because it might not be their faults because becoming obese might be hereditary or something.

That's true. Some people have a genetic predisposition to being overweight, and there are medical conditions that prevent a person from losing weight (these conditions also prevent you from gaining weight, so you stay pretty stable). These people can still be healthy, though. The really healthy food is expensive, but you can do simple things like drinking juice, skim milk, and tea instead of pop, and a loaf of generic wheat bread only costs about 60 cents at WalMart. It's also easy to get in a little exercise everyday: put on some music you like and dance for half an hour or so! And it is your personal decision to eat or not eat fast food. I know a girl who has a medical condition that prevents her from losing weight, and she's in better shape than most of the skinny people at her school, because she watches what she eats and exercises regularly.

FYI: Many juices have just as many calories as soda. Drinking juice can cause one to gain weight.

Obesity can't only be blamed by hereditary inheritence, but also by choice... There are many obese people who could actually be really healthy right now If they actually tried a well balanced diet. I know I was a really big guy, but after I looked into my diet and made healthy changes i actually got to a normal size, now i just need to exercise, and i can get rid of this gut.

I agree. I think that most obese people don't realize what foods are healthy and what foods are unhealthy. Our nutrition programs in schools, etc. arent' exactly the best in the world.

my english teacher just made us watch the movie Fast Food Nation...and he has given us essay's from diffrent writers about fast food and the reasons why...

one such article said that a mother was sueing McDonald's because she thought that the food for her 400 pound son was healthy...funny huh?

Even if it was healthy, she should know that eating too much healthy food will cause obesity as well. People are so eager to make an excuse for anything.

I think it is just very ignorant to sue the food company for getting you fat, Is like suing the alcohol company for getting you drunk. I think it is just not right to sue the company for something that is completely legal. check out my blog on obesity http://www.progressiveu.org/230723-obesity-in-usa-life-killing

I know it is repeditive but I agree. You should not sue McDonalds or Burger King because you got fat from eating it. It is your choice to eat it or choose something else. Mcdonalds and Burger King is not holding a gun to your head saying eat it or die. Many people also blame it on their children because they always want to eat there and it is easier to give in ti the child. Well, tell the child NO! Your child does not know what is good for them so it is our decision as parents to give them healthy meals. Once in a while it is okay to get fast food but just do not make it a habit.
