Look Around

I'm finding more and more that you can see messages for progress in almost anything. Watching a TV show, there may be underlying themes of equality or acceptance. Driving down the road, drivers resist the urge of succombing to road rage even though they'd love to chew out the guy who just cut them off. In advertisements, you see black and white people together--something that would've seemed unthinkeable in slave times, unless the black person was being treated badly.

If you keep an open mind, you can get a progressive message out of just about anything. A news article. A dead poet whose words echo the matters of today. A cat and dog who love each other. A little library that thrives in a small town.

Makes me wonder why some people have trouble coming up with a progressive topic. Sometimes when I'm stuck, I ask a friend for an idea. I IM'd a friend one night when I wanted to write but couldn't focus on a single topic. She's the one who suggested writing about Manga, and that blog entry got me a good rating, some nice comments, and a good amount of reads. Maybe this is saying something more about the creative progress than openmindedness, but it's still a thought.

Knowing that I still need to come up with blog entries encourages me to think deeper, question things I wouldn't normally question, and look at familiar things in a different light. Even if I don't win the scholarship contest, this mental stimulation must be worth something. The more I read (other blogs), the more knowledge I feel I gain, as well as the more insight into other people's walks of life. The more I comment on blogs, the more certainmy views on certain issues get.

Have you found the same to be true during your time with Progressive U, or am I just the oddball here?

The Thundercats were my favorite, way beyond the age that I should have been watching cartoons. My brother and I raced home after school to watch them. THEY were progressive, man. That whole saving the world thing...doesn't get much more progressive!

But seriously, you can find something to write about in nearly everything. My favorite entries are always those that have that personal touch. Not those that tell the life story, but those who effectively tie in real life events to progressive principles, current events, etc. They go beyond just regurgitating what we've already heard to telling us how those principles affect their lives, what they think about them and how they relate in the grander scheme of things. Those are always the ones that make me think about things from a different perspective and from an argument different than those I've heard a million times before.

An education isn't how much you have committed to memory, or even how much you know. It's being able to differentiate between what you do know and what you don't- A. France

I LOVE the tank cheat code.

To keep this comment progressive I'll add that I also enjoy the more random progressive entries. It's nice to see something different.

It's more about the attitude with which one approaches a topic, than it is the topic itself. So you're right! Anything can be a progressive topic!
