if you just stop and think a little about whats to come...

Sitting in class at the end of 4th period usually is the most exciting time of the day. We sit and talk about the current things all teenagers talk about. Well in todays discussion somehow the end of the world came up. And a student was adement on explaining that we were going to go into a great depression and the world is so polluted and messed up that the world was going to end in 2012. To most, that would scare them. To me, it showed me that you know she could be right. The world could just end in 2012, or maybe not. But it made me think that if it was about to end so soon, is our world ready for it? I truly and honestly dont think so. We are technically not ready for the future to come. Think about it, what do you get in everyday and drive to work or school or just to town to go shopping? Most people drive a car. Yeah i admitt that i am one of the guilty ones in this sense but do we ever once stop and think about what we are doing, to the earth and how the earth is just soaking up all the pullutants our car puts off, when we turn our car on? I dont think about it, i just hop in my car and drive off. Should we think about it?, Is the real question! Im not saying that we should all just boycott driving cars to work, im saying that on those days we just go cruising around to look at the "scenery", which we are all guilty of, sometime in our life, we could limit our selves to those instead of 4 or 5 times a week we could limit it to maybe 1. Not saying that this would be a big change for the world. but just think about how many people in this world drive cars, busses, vans, etc. to work/school/shopping everyday of their life. If everyone cut back just a little it would make a difference. We might probabaly wont be able to see the change it would make in our lifetime. but in the centuries to come. our world could be a less polluted world just by that one easy step. And yes there are "those days" when you just have to go shopping!! we girls all know about those days. we all have them! but as you buy that really cute pink shirt to wear to school on monday, just stop and think about then and not now. What we dont think about is how pollution really creates holes in our ozone layer, which increases the amount of ultraviolet radiation reaching the earth, where it damages crops and plants and can lead to skin cancer and cataracts. Do we want our children to deal with this. when we can have the power to stop it?

One thing that is funny is that the Mayans predicted the world to end in December of 2012, I think around the 26th. They were very advanced in astronomy and accurately predicted many other occurances that actually happened...

Interesting blog entry, but there's one thing that seems a little off. You said "If the end of the world is coming , I honestly don't think we're ready for it." If the world ends, how exactly do you ready yourself for it? The end is just that--the end. Not simply the end of motorized transport, but the end of the WORLD. So even if you are "prepared" for it, it's still going to end! Unless of course it's something we can reverse or prevent: pollution, nuclear war, alien invasion...
