France threatening war with Iran?

So, apparently France is trying to get the EU to draw up sanctions against Iran, and is threatening to go to war.

Now, is it just me, or does this seem like it could end up far worse than it seems? Though Iran may not yet have a nuclear weapon, extremists and terrorist organizations would LOVE another excuse to attack not only the U.S., but any country who they believe stands in the way of Islam, which I believe many terrorist groups would take an attack on Iran as. Hasn't France learned from Iraq? At least at this point in time, it wouldn't be a good idea to go into Iran. With the Middle East already more unstable due to civil war in Iraq, it is highly unlikely a war with Iran would make any headway, and would, overall, become a situation similar to what is going on in Iraq right now.

Would it truly be worth it now, when Iran is not yet a threat, and in a time where pre-emptive action would cause more harm than good?

I'm getting flashbacks of the months before the U.S.'s invasion of Iraq. Phrases like "a credible threat" and the like are resurfacing. No blood for oil? France seems pretty vocal and does have oil interests as would any industrialized nation. North Korea talks a lot of game too about nukes but no one seems to threaten war over that just yet. Interesting.

It seems that thats the reason countries do anything for anymore, oil. It is a valuable resource, for now anyway. Hopefully another source of fuel will come along soon so that these wars, essentially over oil, can come to an end.

There are plenty of alternative sources for fuel, but the fuel industry won't let any of it happen. It doesn't matter, we're going to run out of fuel in a couple of decades anyway.

I'm not so sure about running out of fuel in a couple decades, or else I think the U.S would want to be the first to come up with an alternative fuel to mark up and sell to other countries and make a profit off of it, there are a lot of theories, and ethanol is an option on the table for now, but mass production so far isnt working out too well.

whose public was sick of him
Iran has support not only from its public but also foreign countries such as those in the Middle East and of course Pakistan too

While true, have we reached the point to be even speaking of war? Petitions have barely been made for sanctions. It's just not good PR. It shows lack of confidence in sanctions that have yet to be enacted and dismissal of diplomatic talks that are bound to follow.

but who started this cylce of going straight to war and not listening to UN and EU?
and who ignored all those that thought war should be THE last option?

and seriously, it would be pityful and shameful if it comes to that because it will show that we have not learned anything from our mistakes
