A godless world would be a scary one, but a thoughtless one is even worse

Dear Christians,
I am not on a crusade against Christ.  I do not hate Jesus.  I do not hate you and I have nothing against the morals you preach.  At least until I find out that the only reason you do anything decent is to get into Heaven.  Or to 'save' people.  When I find out that you do nothing because it is the right thing to do, I am dissapointed.  Your preaching says nothing but kindness to all, but in the end all you're being kind to is yourself.  For this I find you dispicable people.  When a good person holds a door or builds a school, it's because they are a kind person or a child needs a place to learn and be safe.  When you build a school, it's because you're marching for Jesus.  You can't build a school and tell the kids to learn, you have to build a school and then tell them their whole lives are wrong and backwards.  You have to tell them that Jesus is the only way, that your understanding of Jesus is the only way.  That everyone who does not think like you is going to Hell because....well....they don't think like you.   If the children do not subscribe to your beliefs, then they can go to school and feel guilty and awful because they're going to hell and so is Mommy, because she doesn't share your beliefs either.  Because everyone but you, the good Christian, is wrong.

Why do you never just do good?  Why are people not polite and kind and smart because it is just the way to be?  Why can they not just be decent human beings without the incentive of Jesus or the threat of Hell?  I know a godless world would be a scary one, but a thoughtless world is even worse.

Sincerely,
Me

"I know a godless world would be a scary one, but a thoughtless world is even worse."
--I don't really agree with this statement. A godless world would be far better than the 'god' world we live in now. Think about it. What are terrorists fighting for -- their god. Why do these terrorists hate us? Because we don't subscibe to their lifestyle - read religious fundamentals.

In addition, our government wouldn't fake christianity to suppress rights and liberties. Do you really think these people are concerned with the average American while they write bills that only give tax incentives/breaks to the wealthiest of folks or corporations that really need that extra $4 billion profit these tax cuts create??
(I blogged about how the oil companies are screwing us with their tax incentives for making "alternative" fuels...

Also, I think that without religious hurdles we might actually learn to tolerate each other. I watched an episode of "Wife Swap" one night -- I know, embarassing to admit. But what struck me was that they swapped an atheist family with a christian preacher's family. http://abc.go.com/primetime/wifeswap/episode/122/bio.html -- the site linking to the family bios. Sorry they don't have clips from that airing. The point is...the persistant belittling of the atheists (for no other reason than they weren't christian) brought the husband to tears!! Fortunately, I have yet to experience any significant problems with my atheism (although most members of my family don't have a clue for that very reason -- I wouldn't lie if directly asked, but see no point to bring it up when I would be clearly outnumbered and mmost likely misunderstood.).

I know for a fact that my life quality increased greatly once I shed my christian label and began doing good because as a highly intellegent species we must look out for one another and do all possible to progress our society, if not for ourselves then for those who will come after us. I also find myself far more kind, generous, and less burdened with self-hatred and guilt (which caused me to act-out negatively during my younger years).

read back some of what I wrote maybe. I'm proud not to be a christian and agree completely with all you say.

I was only disagreeing that a godless world would be scary. I think the opposite. It is nice to find someone with simular beliefs :)

Actually even Jesus is not right or good. Maybe you should find out what a belief is before you think you are equipt to criticize it.
---Luke 18
18And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
19And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Hold on! That might require thought. Sorry, I forgot what kind of world you said you are from.
