what makes a parent a parent?

Tagged:  •

Has anyone ever watched the TV show "Supernanny"?  I like to watch it because it gives me ways to tend to my little brother when my parents work late.  But it shows how some parents really aren't parents.  A parent is supposed to be your friend and your diciplinary figure at the same time.  So why do they slack up so much and let their children take controll of them.  And what is with all of these parents buying expensive things for their kids just because they can.  And then the kids have no concept of how in real life they have to EARN things.  It's great when a parent can afford to buy things for their kids but there comes a point when things get out of hand.  Post your comments and ideas about how you think America's children are being treated wrong and maybe ways you can come up with to fix it.  I'm sure there are some Moms on this website.  Give us future parents some input.:)

WOW!!! Ok where to start! I am 25 and have a 7 yr old girl 4 yr old son and 2 yr old girl! And let me tell you being a parent is the hardest job yuo will ever have!! NO MATTER WHAT!! My daughter is going through a stage that has me in a tale spin, a stage that I went through at 12 or 13. They literally grow up to fast now. Our kids have babies at 11! They engage in ADULT stuff instead of being a kid, because we all know how great it is to be grown up, lol! Right. I would love to read insight, but the only advice I have is...
1. dont let your kids sleep with you as babies! They dont grow out of it.
2. Follow the books the best you can i.e. bottle drinking etc.
3. watch what your child sees and hears.
4. show much love to your child even if you are going to school and have 2 other kids. They each need a few min of thier own parental love a day. Just sit with them brush there hair, play a game.
5. follow your gut and heart they will stear you!
6. Be a parent not a best freind, you can be a parent with out being the freind but still be like there freind if that makes any sense.
7. And when you say somthing it has to stick the first time!!
8. watch the nanny!!!!!!!!!

Wow great comment and lots of good advice. Congrats on balancing a few kids and college at the same time!

I think it is the hardest job in the world is being an parent, because your chooses affect you child and the child future.
