I was watching CNN this morning and I got to hear more about Hillary Clinton's plan for Health Insurance Nationwide. She has some really good ideas!!! Things I picked out of what I heard?
1. If you like what you have you can keep it.
2. Tax breaks for those who need insurance.
3. Taxes will pay for the national insurance.
4. Get rid of the breaks Bush gave the rich to help pay for national insurance.
Here's the thing. I'm from NY. We have a program so that low income families can provide health insurance for children under the age 19. No child in NY goes without health insurance because of this program. Gulliani helped push Child Health Plus and after it went into effect New Yorkers barely noticed a difference in taxes. It can be done. At least for the children. I completely support the idea of Health Care Insurance for all, but I don't want it to be like the Canadian or European solutions where everyone pays 100x more in taxes. I really hope that some of the republican candidates come up with similair ideas just so that we can vote for more than one candidate on this issue. I'm proud of Hillary Clinton for touching such a touchy issue. So many of my #1 issues are going ignored like Social Security Reform for example. Today I heard a news reporter say that Hillary Clinton's proposal wages war on the middle class, that seems like the cop out report these days. Every canidate is accused of that. My question is, if you do nothing isn't that waging war on the middle class? The middle class suffers the most on this issue. They're the ones that end up paying every penny they have if they need a medical procedure and are uninsured. I just hope more light will be shed on this issue now that Hillary Clinton made a proposal.

Some basic insurance for children does seem like a really good idea. It seems like many of the problems with some of the kids I meet from underprivileged families that can't afford insurance could be helped even if they just had something that gave them a free visit to the doctor once a month for advice, actual insurance could do wonders for them.
Obama is talking healthcare, too. His plan involves giving 100 million Americans tax cuts while removing tax cuts given to the wealthiest Americans by Bush. I expect that there will be enough funding for his proposal in spite of the tax cuts or we'll be facing an underfunded system. Hillary's plan sounds more comprehensive but Obama is demanding health care for all children as well.

Socialized health care diminishes competition in the medical field and thus desimates the level of health care provided. And I already pay enough for my health care, why would I want to pay for others'?

That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard. I'm not attacking you personally, because a lot of people claim that--I'm sorry that you want your tax dollars to NOT go to health care. I'm glad that you can afford paying premiums, but I hope that nothing TOO bad happens to you--because like many other Americans you may find out that your insurance companies will "deny" your claim. It's on the news every day, and there are court cases. One insurance claims adjuster broke down in a court of law because she denied the claim of a man with a lung disease because it would cost too much for the operation. She got a raise for it. "Socialized health care diminishes competition in the medical field "
Yes, it does. Canada and some European countries are in that bind right now. The major difference is that what Clinton proposes is not doing away with a doctor's pay. Most of your premium money is, guess what, PROFIT.
I'm not saying that the Clinton plan is perfect, but with the way insurance premiums are going we're going to have more and more people becoming uninsured.
T"oday I heard a news reporter say that Hillary Clinton's proposal wages war on the middle class"
Excuse my language, but BULLSHIT! You are so right, Clinton said that she will propose reinstating higher taxes for those that make more than $250,000 a year--the same people that Bush cut taxes for in support of the "trickle down" theory.
Aren't you people old enough to realize that candidates hardly make promises they plan on keeping? If Hillary Clinton is our president, there's a good chance I'm moving to Europe, in all honesty. (By the way, republicans always make tax cuts for the rich, so I doubt you'll get anything from them.)
well that's true but i'm going on the basis that she proposed a healthcare plan around 1993 or 1994 that failed because it restricted people that already had healthcare. she's been spouting this out for longer than a decade--so yeah, I think she will try.
Why does everyone hate Clinton so much??
And remember--we have the House and the Senate. So if something doesn't happen it won't be all her fault. Remember checks and balance? I'm young enough to remember that from junior high.
Its really quite sad that you feel that way. You've lost all faith in our government. At this point all we have is hope that the candidates will do at least some of the things they say they'll do. They can never do it all and if you were in office you couldn't either, but you should at least give them credit for trying. Maybe you should go into politics.
