Yeah they're a bit racist...

Everywhere I look, there are racist people all around. They don't outright say things like you would imagine someone would in the deep south, but they can see the humor in a black joke. However, they claim that it isn't that bad. What isn't bad about it? I hear people say it doesn't matter what race someone is and they would never just call someone the "n" word or something like that, but when you're in the car with someone that is driving that's been alive for a while, he/ she makes no qualms about using a racial slur when someone cuts them off. Also, when driving everyone always thinks of the Asians as the slow drivers. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say something to that effect. How is it we hear these racist comments all the time, yet think nothing really of them. If I hear an old lady, say the "n" word, I'm not going to correct her, but why don't I? I mean shouldn't I? Even though she's ninety years old and she grew up in a different era, shouldn't I try to get her to understand that hate that that word implies and the hurt it causes? I asked my friend this and she said that it did not matter because the old lady was old and set in her ways, but if she is going to be around me or someone very impressionable, shouldn't she be corrected. Why would someone believe that I am telling them the right thing to do, when their sweet old granny is doing something different? How do people say racism is wrong and then laugh at a black joke or Mexican joke or Asian joke, or not back up their belief when someone else questions it? Isn't standing by and letting something happen make you somewhat responsible for what is happening?
