A few months ago Arnold Schwarzenegger the governer of California propoesd his idea to get rid of the huge debt that California has. His main idea was to take $4.8 billion away from Education statewide. This affects students all over the state for several reasons. With less money the schools will have a harder time getting the supplies they need. These budget cuts also increases the number of students in a classroom. With more kids in a classroom it makes it harder for them to learm. Which can increase the number of failures in a classroom and a school. In the Riverside Unifed School District they are being affected in ways that could be bad for schools. The biggest problem is that they may close Grant Elementary School which is the oldest Elementary school in Riverside. That means students will have to relocate to a different school some where else. At King High School (the high school I attend) will ahve to share a librarian with another school. Which effects the students at King because it will make time in the library limited to certain times and also will make it extremly hard to check out the books they need for school. I think what Arnold Schwarzenegger is not thinking about with this budget cut is that the students in California are the future of California.

sounds like los angeles district schools to me, i guess he figures that if they can make it, then so shall others.
PTA and other people should get involved. They could easily use students in these capacity...ie those studying to become librarians.

Wow. That's a big cut! It's a big state, too, so it would not have the same impact as 4.8 billion in the state of Minnesota, but still! That's huge. When does this go into effect? I am curious to read about the results of this next year. Will you post during the school year to tell us if you have seen any major differences?
