volunteering is great...
since the holiday season has officially begun, now is a great time to think about those less fortunate than us. There are many rewarding benefits to volunteering. For starters think of who you would like to help and why: maybe you are artistic and could help disabled inviduals express themselves, perhaps paint a mural in your community. Maybe you like working with children and would like to volunteer with the Salvation Army and help with toys for them, or go to your local hospital and visit the children who are in there for long-term illness, there are many possibilities are us to give back and there isn't a better chance to do it than now.
If you think volunteering isn't for you then perhaps helping in other ways might work: tutor a student at your school, or go back to your elementary school and help a second grader learn to read, bring a couple of canned food items to your school's food driv. If you love to knit or crochet (I know many teenagers won't admit to liking this- hey be proud!) make a few scarves to donate to a homeless shelter, knit hats and mittens for a womens shelter that will distribute it to children in need usually. Or if you like to sew make a quilt and donate it these winter to someone in need.
However, of course there are many organizations out there that want your help for many good reasons but the most rewarding experiences, in my opinion, are the two following, which please volunteer for one of them if not both: the military personnel serving overseas and senior citizens. the organization AnySoldier (google it) will let you choose someone to write to in the navy, army, marines, etc. many are just looking for letters of encouragement and hello's all year long, however if you are really ambitious you can send them care packages: the neccesities are what they usually need such as soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, getting sheets and pillows are luxuries and any snacks you want to include are always appreciated. You may or may not get a response from them but either way you know you did a really kind act this holiday season. Secondly, think of all the senior citizens out there. I am sure there is a nursing home in your community and there is nothing better than bringing a smile to their face each week or bi-weekly. Please volunteer!!!! These folks spend much of the day all by themselves and need kind faces and people to lift their spirits.
So within the next couple of weeks please find your inner self that is kind and filled with happiness to share this with those who need our support. Volunteering is very rewarding and many organizations wouldn't exist today if not for caring individuals who volunteer!

I put my vote on the food pantry. Every body, go volunteer at the food pantry or give it some food.

You don't have to limit volunteering to just around the holidays. One of my clubs at school helps out the food bank and the center for people in need at one of their food distributions once a month at an area school. We hand out food and other necessities and have a great time doing it.
That was a nice post, volunteering can open the invisible doors that one might not know about and there is always someone who is waiting for whatever we have to offer. sometimes we volunteer expecting results but in my opinion it is so good when we volunteer and expect nothing in return.
