Child Abuse

Tagged:  •    •

The other day on the news, there was a story of several families in this one rural area I believe, in Texas that were suspected of abusing their children, so CPS (Child Protective Services) took the children away for DNA testing, which to me was a huge shock because I didn't know that they (CPS) could do such a thing. The parents of the children look wicked crazy too! They look like they're from the 50's with their slicked back, dark hair, and pastel, long, flowy, weird & ugly night-gown looking dresses. They had southern accents I believe. The accents were honestly like nothing I'd ever heard before, and I've lived in Texas all of my life. They did seem fairly suspicious because of their abnormal apperances, but is it fair to do things like that when you aren't 100% sure that abuse is going on inside of their homes? I don't know if I think what the CPS did was right because if my sister, my child, or even I was taken away from my home when there wasn't a single thing going on at my home that was wrong, and I was more than happy being there, like I am with my family now, I'd be extremely upset, and even consider pressing charges. However, my parents seem to think that what CPS did is worth the depression that the other children are experiencing in the labs, if they catch abuse with one of the children. I just don't know what to think at all about what our government's doing because where my parents may have a point, it's possible that none of the families could be experiencing abuse. That to me, doesn't seem fair, nor just, at all, whatsoever.

It was a polygamist group, and over 400 children were taken away. The DNA testing had to be done to determine the parentage of the children, because lineage wasn't very clear.
