Some people see sex as freedom, others see it as recreation, almost everybody sees it on TV! Why is sex so prevalent in pop culture. I want to wait until I am married, but I don't judge others. I am not a prude, I go to the mall, movies, and dinner with friends, but sex is more in the public eye than ever. I challenge you to watch music videos on MTV OR BET for an hour on a Friday afternoon, and name for me five videos that do not have rump shaking booty popping or scantily clad women. Some of it can be tasteful, but a lot of it is not. Teens are having sex and getting pregannt at younger ages. If a child is over the age of eight and has cable they have most likely been exposed to some type of sexual act or insinuation on TV. I can't lie I like some of those videos, but are they helping some teens grow up too fast?, and does what people watch on TV affect what they do?

I so agree. Even seeing the clothes that today's children wear - I begin to worry about the detoriating values of today. They're giving a wrong sense of what's right and wrong to tommorow's generation.
I agree with you about the clothes thing. I can't believe mothers would dress their toddlers in little mini skirts and belly-baring tube tops. And people wonder why there are pedophiles.
I grew up in a city where there were 14 year olds with children. There were 18 kids pregnant when I graduated and the number grew this year. I agree, there is too much emphasis on sex. Many of the kids feel that since it's out there and people know about it that it's cool. They don't realize any of the consequences. Sec ed is taught but they all think that they can do what they want. There are also the ones that say well it doens't matter. Teens are growing up way too fast. I truthfully have not have sex and are not planning to until I meet that one. I see the sex symbol all over the place, but unlike some people I know what is right. I won't say that what they did was wrong, but it can ruin their lives. I see them walking around with kids, when they themselves are kids. It hurts me, I hurt for them. The sex symbol shouldn't be in everything that we watch today, but that is the way they get people to watch. This society revolves around that symbol, so I have began to notice. There should be no reason for teens or even children to grow up. TV has actually caused some problems in the long run.
It is hard to completely shift the blame to teenagers. It is mostly because of the face-paced nature of modern culture. Parents are often too busy with their own careers to be able to be involved in their children's matter. With the absence of parents in these teenagers' lives, the teenagers are often left to themselves to make the critical decisions without the proper moral foundation.
I think TV affects less than some people think it does. I believe that the MTV show, Laguna Beach is a big problem. I like the show of course because it is about teen age life, but it makes sex seem okay. They always say hooking up, which to many means sex, but I checked and to them it means anywhere from kissing to sex, so whos to say. But the reason for sex on tv is because Sex sells. I am also waiting for marriage, but if it were not for my awesome parents, friedns, and religion. Mainly religion, I'd probably have sex willingly. It is hard to resist and when you watch Laguna Beach and see that it is not uncommon among young people, and then you hear about kids in school doing it, it leads to kids thinking it is okay. And ultimatly I find that people are not having as much sex as some may think. It is a lot, but some kids think EVERYONE is doing it, and it is weird not to, but in reality it is not weird to wait. But it is beneficial. And there was a survey that said 85 or so percent of the girls that had sex before they were 18 or so, wish they had waited. If you think about the future, and how much better it'll be when your with the person you are meant to be with it is a lot easier to resist. Just do not let that testostrone get the best of you guys. And everyone, feelings and emotions are powerful, use your brain when in those situations.

I agree. Everything on tv deals with someting sexual. There are even some movies out there that are made for little kids that have sexual refrences in them such as the movies "The Cat in the Hat". When kids see these kinds of things on tv they may think that it would be wrong for them to do the same thing. Many parents don't feel that they need to educate their kids on sex or protect their kids from watching sexual things that happen on tv. What will happen then when their child ends up being teenage parent because they thought that it was ok to have sex because the people on tv were doing it? This doesn't just go for teens, it also goes for the younger generation. Kids will experiment and experimenting will lead to consequences.
So what can you do to fix it. You cant! In order for things to get fixed like that it takes people of influence to do it, the poeple with the most influnce in cases of sexual acts on TV is the parents, too many times parents fail to correctly moniture the childrens choice in TV or internet. They need to starte doing it Parents are the best line of defense in preventing childrens sexual encounters.
If you think about it, I remember Acme cartoons between Bugs and Babs, with the whistling and the bulging, veiny eyes and her gigantic "mammaries." It did not affect me though. I mean, obviously are culture will always be based on how attractive you are, and if that attraction leads to sex, then that is a personal choice. I do not support censorship in any form, and if television has a lot of sex in the programming, then it's up to you to turn it off if you don't like it. Anyone who bases their sexual activity off of what people do on television, then they obviously have a weak mind. Television supports loose morals, but so does other forms of pop culture: music, film, radio, print ads. You can't escape it on TV, because you can't escape in this world. I think that the amount of sex in pop culture is comparable to the amount of public information ads that help kids make the right decisions, support drug-free, or safe sex choices. So honestly? I don't think it's television that is affecting kids to grow up too fast, and I don't think it affects the majority of what teenagers do. I think we already have to grow up fast because we live in a very technologically advanced and volatile world, that is only growing more productive and dangerous by the months.
I hear you but sex education is already a little faulty with so many schools pushing this abstinence thing. I intend to wait till marriage and the whole abstinence program still irks my nerves a bit. The kids who are not planning to be abstinent are not all getting sufficient info from school programs, so I am very concerned that sex talk within the media will give MISINFORMATION. I canno tpersonally judge those teens who r just having sex because they feel like it.
Yes, they are. What the hell are fourteen-year-olds doing, having sex?
i don't know, but they are and if someone would inform them then maybe there would not be 14 year old mothers.
