Juicy Campus: A Student's Worst Nightmare

Welcome to your First Amendment right of free speech. Thanks to this, people thought it would be a great idea to start a website that revolves around gossip. Juicy Campus is a website that allows you to log in as an anonymous user and post anything you want. You can even post people's names and state whatever you want about them. You have no control over what is posted or what information gets out. You can even run a search to find names and see what has been posted about a certain individual.

This site is absolutely horrible. Why would anyone want to gossip so badly about people? It's just a good way to hurt feelings and create a bad reputation for people who probably don't deserve it. I don't think I have ever seen such a great example of taking freedom of speech to unacceptable levels as I have with this website.

Thankfully, senators are starting to join in and promote the banning of this website from the Internet. Google has also pulled their ads from the website, showing they don't support what Juicy Campus stands for. But the argument the creators of this site keep putting up is that they feel people have the right to express whatever they want about people to the whole world, whether the information be true or false.

Honestly, it just seems like a way to get people pissed off and to hurt those individuals who you don't really like. It's a horrible thing, and this site needs to be shut down before rumors start overcoming our schools. Find something better to do with your time!

Yes the first amendment is a wonderful thing and we as Americans are very fortunate to have such freedom. However, what Americans don't seem to understand is that you can't abuse your rights. Your rights should stop once you start infringing upon the rights of others, right? That's exactly what this website is doing. It's infringing upon your right to privacy and where does libel come in? I have never heard of this website but it sounds awful and I hope that it does get shut down. Whoever said, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me" was seriously misled. Words can hurt like no other. And once they're out there. .. especially in writing. . .they can't be taken back. I'm glad that senators are starting to take action. Google has also set a good example and we can only hope that other big names will side with them as well. This is just awful!
