The draft is coming back. Senator Rangel of New York has proposed a draft and it will come to a vote in January. We are losing the war in Iraq and need more troops. According to Senator McCain of Arizona, we need the draft to keep us all safe. If we leave Iraq the terrorists will come onto home soil and the citizens of this country will be in danger. There will then be a war on home soil. We should keep the war in Iraq. We need to bring more troops to Iraq in order to win the war there and not risk a huge war here. I don't want it to be a danger here and endanger all the people that are still at home. It is more reasonable to keep the troops over there and send more people so that we can win this war. We are losing this war! We need to win it, and the only way is to send more people over there. We do have a corrupt government who shouldn't have gone there in the first place, but now that we are there we should support our troops and help them out, we need to keep our country safe. We want to keep our freedoms, so lets support Congress so that we can all be safe here and so our troops have a better chance of surviving. Let's win this war and get out of there!

If they reinstate the draft and I get the letter I will proudly make a dash for the border. The decision to die is my own and not my governments. This is completly insane. By the way are you an 18 yr. old with your whole life in front of you? How about we draft 40+ people thier lives are half over. Why should the young die so you can keep your "freedoms"?

For this draft, are they planning on drafting girls?..Also are they going to take away college students? I myself am not 18 yet..but I will be in September...I fear for a draft..I don't want to be drafted, I have a whole life ahead of me..I just don't understand some things...<3 Lindsey
Traditionally, the draft does not include females. I believe they'd keep it that way. When you turn 18, if you're male you have to go register at a post office or something, but females do not, meaning that they can't be drafted.

If a draft is put back into effect I believe that it is unfair to the young men and women of the United States that do not wish to die for their country. I think that the choice to die in a war is not for the government to decide, but the person themselves. The war is almost pointless anymore in Iraq. We may be "losing" but we are losing because we are not wanted and we stick our noses where maybe it does not belong in the first place. It would be wrong to send people who do not wish to die to Iraq and let them get shot at and possibly die for a cause that is not nessarily(sp?) a just cause.
There won't be another draft. Unless something really big goes down (and I mean huge) then no, I highly doubt it.
My opinion of McCain is that is a war general and will do nothing for our declinging economy and country. It's not that I don't think we can't win this war. I am just sick of all the bickering about it. We do not need the draft, atleast I doubt it. If McCain wins and instates the draft. I'd expect an uprising. No one is happy about the war, what makes you think people would be happy to be drafted. I think one of the World Wars, there was a draft in Germany or something and millions of men died. Which meant a whole generation of single and widowed women? You want that?
