As of the begining of this blog, I have been a member for 22hours and 35 minutes. I have read probably about 30 blogs from other people and many of these have been about the war in Iraq. Now, normally, I could care less about the rest of the world, because i don't see it as directly effecting me, but I still notice things that go on around me. One of these things is that it seems a lot of people want to have the war over and bring our troops all home now, and not later. So I ask you all, why?
When this whole thing started, there was a large majority of America that supported this. Then we sent our troops into Iraq, and soon enough, we started loosing men and women who where over there. Then people started to freak out. Its a war people (and I don't care if congress says otherwise), and people loose their lives in it. You sould have thought about that before. And, really, if you compare it to just about any other conflict we have ever been in, the losses in this one are barely anything to them.
Now, I have to tell you, I noticed that most of the media has been against this war the entire time. To try to make everyone else think that this war is going horrible for us and get them to think the way they want, they only print or show us what will support this. They tell about how many troops we have lost or had disabled, but does anyone of them even show an estimated guess of how many men they have lost or had thown in jail? No. So, don't go beliveing everything you here, because you haven't truely heard both sides of the story.
But going back on topic, sure Bush said we would find WMDs and we didn't, and he keeps thing from us, but he is a politition! We all know they can't be truely trusted! You all know this. Now, does it matter what our positions were before, and what they are now? No. We are there, and what is done is done.
My mother has always told me this, and I'm sure its the same with most people. "If you start something, finish it." I say that is what we do now. While it would be nice for everything to go how we want it, it doesn't happen like that a lot of the time. If we were to just pull out entirely now, it would probably be like Vietnam all over again. We pulled out too early, and then all the progress we made was for nothing. History repeats itself, and I say we don't make the same mistakes again. If we had another Veitnam with this, then all our progress, all of the men and women that have died, all of it would be for nothing. And then we, America, would look like a big bunch of wimps.
I hope that I don't seem too heartless in this blog, because i know that many have lost somebody dear to them, adn i know death is a horrible thing. I jsut know that we would regreat any rash decisions we made if they weren't thought out properly first. So in conclusion, i say this, get the job done right, otherwise, we will all have to pay the consequences in the end.

The media is profit based, they thrive on the destructive forces of human nature. If its all holly dolly good times peace, they don't really say to much. Its the gruesome stuff, that's where they can make negative assumptions and play on people's fears, and the worst part is that people eat it up.

No WMD found in Iraq, Sadam is out, the Iraqi people voted... What more do you want? What is your definition of finished? Every Iraq man, women and child dead? Iraq paved with asphalt? People aren't freaking out only because troops are being wounded and killed, they want out because the whole thing was a lie. It was a big LIE and now that we know we want the killing, the death and destruction to stop.
Who has heard from the Iraqi side of the story? Hundreds of thousands killed, millions homeless, infrustructure in ruins, billions of dollars stolen, oil flowing out of the country totally unaccounted for... Have you heard the other side of the story?
Excuse me what is the job now? And what is your definition of done? Yes, there are already consequences to pay and we are all paying for them right now: higher oil prices, falling dollar, americas reputation shattered, and we are in fact less safe now having lost many of our civil rights enshrined in the constitution: habeas corpus, due process, presumption of innocence, warrantless search and seizure, unlawful and indefinite imprisonment...
What is your definition of done?
Ok, while you do make a few valid points there, I would like to point out that if we did have another vietnam with this, than our reputaion would be a lot worse then it is now. And when I say the other side of the story, I don't mean that of Iraq's but that of what our troops have accomplished. You don't hear much of that in the media. As for when is done, thats all opinion. Nobody, NOBODY!!!, can truely tell that. I just liek to be safe with being on the long side.
