I'm right, you're wrong

Fanatics in any religion start controversy.  The moment someone starts to do something wrong and uses religion to justify it is when the trouble starts.  Apart from stirring up conflicts, it gives religions a bad name.  The question is why do people do that?  Are they taught wrong, or do they just need an excuse to justify their actions.  Religions have become scapegoats for many things.  How do you stop a person who believes what they are doing is right?  For instance, take something that you strongly believe in.  What if someone were to tell you that that’s wrong?  Would you believe them?  Who are they to tell you what you believe in is wrong?
What they are doing is wrong.  But how do we convince them that it is wrong?  It’s hard to change the minds of people who are so into what they believe.  It is why there is so much controversy.  In such a diverse society, there needs to be some sort of compromise, some sort of common ground on which we can all stand.  But how do we find it?

I don't think that the solution to fundamentalism is, by necessity, compromise, because many very poor decisions have been the result of such a process. Rather, people need to learn how to *think* and process information rationally rather than basing decisions solely on faith.

I agree.

People can have beliefs of any extremity -- it only becomes an issue when they want to force those beliefs on others.

Compromise, although difficult, is more practical because it doesn't ask people to surrender their beliefs (despite popular belief) and often satisfies as many people as possible.

Yea, how do you tell a devout Nazi that they are just wrong. Even after you PROVE to them there is NO difference between people. It's not a problem like you said until they are foisting their views on others. Like the Religious nuts in this country. Now that they are cramming their bible down our throats, we have the obligation to fend ourselves and defend our freedom.
