Bait and Switch

Apparently Circuit City feels like they have the right to play the old bait and switch. And not only that, but when confronted by the Better Business Bureau they still have the guts to press the issue as if they aren't in the wrong. Is this a matter of a corporation having the money to get away with breaking the law? Other than that I really couldn't fathom what the reasoning of the company is as to why they wouldn't let this go and give the man his rightful $40 off.

I'd also recently reading online that Office Depot was advertising USB drives for a ridiculously low price. Once word had gotten out on the net, of course thousands of us geeks found our way to the stores trying to take advantage of the sale, assuming the store would make good on their own offer. But no. They realized it was a mistake on their part and merely offered the excuse of "typo" and a too bad so sad argument. The people who had ordered online for the listed price (the price online being the same as the sale in the ad paper PROVING it wasn't just an ad typo) had their sales cancelled.

Should companies be able to get away with tactics such as this? Using great sales to lure people to the store for products they aren't going to be able to get?

Thoughts?
