Sometimes to go forward it is necessary to back. In this case we are going back to pre- civil war days. It was before embalming. The parlor was near the entry way to the house. When a family member died, the deceased was usually laid out in the parlor.
There was no embalming because embalming came with the civil war. Today many folks object to the charges of the traditional funeral home and are choosing the option of the home funeral. Also some folks are choosing this option because embalming fluids are destructive to all life below the ground or above the ground.
If you choose to have a home funeral, it is best to march in the funeral home and tell the funeral director. This is the way It can done! That is how RestinPeace saw it happen in the Washington DC Area.
