YOUR TAKE ON RAP

What’s your take on gangsta rap? Do you agree with the message it produces or with the feelings it produces? This genre of music has been around for roughly 20 years and has filled with controversy. It has been considered one of the leading motivators for murders, crime sprees, and centered aggression. It has now grown to a multi-billion dollar business that glorifies money, putting down of women, and selling drugs. But on the other hand, can this art form be blamed for the negative image it has achieved. Many of the artists come from childhoods and situations much worse than the one they talk about. So their raps come from personal experience and form the environment that they were born into. So is it really their fault or the local governments for the slums they were use to seeing on a regular basis. I personally listen to gangsta rap and love it. I don’t agree with the things they glorify, but can identify with were they come from and the aggression they might have. I am torn between whether it is a good or bad thing to listen to this type of music. Give your option and be honest to yourself before you answer. The truth will set you free.

I've always been impressed by people with the ability to rap on the spot. It's poetry of an entirely different form. However, I hate that most rap these days is full of profanities and bad subjects. I don't listen to any rap because of all the profanity in it. I think, if we can get rid of all the cussing and the like, then rap would be a wonderful thing to listen to.

To be honest, I'm not familiar enough with "gangsta rap" to be able to offer an educated opinion on it... however, I feel that a lot of it is quite fake and intended to make money. The very name - "gangsta rap". I'm sorry, but gangsters would not want to publicize any acts of violence they may have committed or any gang affiliation unless they have an IQ about on par with a jar of mayonnaise. Any gangster who really goes around committing the violent acts many of these "rap artists" romanticize would be hauled into jail so fast they'd probably break the sound barrier. The truth is, many of these rap artists are just in it for the money. Even if there is some degree of truth in their albums (which I'm not entirely convinced there is), they are exploiting it for the sake of money. And do you know who the most affluent supporters of "gangsta rap" albums are? White suburban teenagers... talk about being a sellout.
