In the article that i read by Amy Harmon “Lactivists’ taking their cause, and their babies, to the streets” the author gives a good understanding of radical feminism. The article explains that some women who breastfeed in public were discriminated against and were asked to stop breastfeeding in public. Rallies were spread by what they call themselves “lactivists” to protest the unfair treatment of women in society. It was said that it is a women’s right to give nurture and care to the baby even in public places.
Radical feminism opposes patriarchy, and the way human relationships are arranged based on power. In this article it is clearly defined that women are not supported by their coworkers, their employers, and men on the issue of breastfeeding in public. In that case some women are constrained and afraid to breastfeed because they don’t receive adequate support from society, therefore they consider it wrong. It is a woman’s right to stand up for her rights and to have self confidence. And society must stop being an oppressive of patriarchy and let women decide to do what they feel is right.
Some might argue that breastfeeding in public will pose women as sex objects. But if breastfeeding becomes wide-spread, then breastfeeding will be seen as natural and will be refused to be seen as something sexual. To deal with patriarchy, and make women equal to men, we must make society supportive of women who need to breastfeed their babies in public. The attitudes of men and society must be changed of how they view breastfeeding, and equality must be made between men and women.
All women regardless of their religion, sexuality, and race must be treated equal in society. Men must stop looking at women as sex objects, and realize that the only difference between women and men is their sexual gender. In all other aspects they are suppose to be considered equal. Women must never be forced to choose between being a mother to their child and loosing their jobs. Women must not be asked to use a bathroom to breastfeed their child. By disapproving of such action society creates a bigger discomfort for those who are against breastfeeding in public. If for some, breastfeeding in public is discomforting, then it’s only fair to say that gays in public would also be considered uneasy.
Breastfeeding is natural and a sign of nurture for a human being. It should not be considered as something that is degrading, uncomfortable, or as a pornographic act. Radical feminism shows us how sometimes a woman’s body can be used by men against women, such as pornographic magazines and films. But on the opposite side, a woman’s body can also be used by women for women, such as breastfeeding. Breastfeeding is not considered anything sexual, therefore it should not be taken against women by men. However, the pornographic industry has thrived in objectifying advertising, making it difficult for some women to breastfeed in public. Pornography is considered sexual and can be taken against women even in violent ways. If society can ban pornography to set the minds of many men straight, then it would be easier to view breastfeeding as a natural act.
In my opinion, breastfeeding in public should be considered as a natural act. And people must start realizing that the only reason women expose themselves is to nurture their baby. Women have the right to breastfeed in public, and must stand up for their right to do so.

Breastfeeding in public isn't really a radical proposal. That some people think it's a sexual act (presumably a turn-on) says more about their tastes than the women involved.
The real radical feminists take Beethoven's 9th to be a channeling of a rapist's sexual frustration and change the spelling of women to 'womyn' or 'wimmin.' That's just god-awful.
The term 'lactivist' is just funny, though.

Bill Mahar said, 'You want to breastfeed in public? How would you like it if you saw a blowjob in a fancy restaurant?'
There's a world of difference between the sexualized breast and the working breast. Breasts have a FUNCTION. They're not just there to look nice and attract comments (both good and bad).
If construction workers can comment on a woman's rack in PUBLIC, she should be able to use it for what it was designed to do!
I don't know if he's joking there, but Bill Maher is awesome... except for the Amazon.com Fishbowl show. He shouldn't demean himself by hawking products.
I got to see him in Eugene, OR a couple years ago. If my dad and I had had driven further and gone to the Portland show the next night, we would have been filmed for his "I'm Swiss" HBO special.

I think it is funny that gay people can walk around kissing and hugging but a woman cannot discretely feed a baby in public. How retarded. Just my thought. lol

If someone asked me to go to a restroom to breastfeed, I would have to reply with "Only if you'll eat your lunch in there, too." Feeding an infant or anyone else in a restroom poses a threat to the person's health.
As for the "indecency" arguments, when one is breastfeeding there is no more skin exposed than you would see in an older Lil Kim video.
